No one?  I thought you were implying that Karen Dalton did.  Sooooo confusing!

Very true.

I was going to say Mahalia Jackson too, but she's been gone quite some time now.

She still sounded a little shrink wrapped to me...like someone doing an impression of a great singer than actually living it...

I don't know, I just hear a feeling and a swing in musicians from 30, 40 years ago that I don't hear today. I want to hear it, but I don't. Here's another great example....Little Feat....you just don't hear that feel and swing anymore

Speaking of Mahalia Jackson, I thought she sang the theme to The Jeffersons, so I looked it up on u toob to discover that Sherman Hemsley died a few months ago. If I knew, I had forgotten. Then that led me to read about his death and it says that he was a recluse, and left everything, which was nothing, to his agent. Then suddenly, a guy shows up claiming to be his brother and stopped his funeral and he's been frozen in a morgue in Texas since July until this guy can prove he's really his brother.

Ain't the internets amazin?

Sorry to derail the thread, but ya had to know it was coming, right?

That's because there were actual musicians in the recording studio. Back then normally you went in with the people you gigged with and you knew each other so well the feel came natural. Now days it's all Sonar and studio musicians ... if that. For example, there will never be another CCR ... :(

If you like Karen Dalton, check out Jessi Collin Young. He put out a couple of great albums in the early 70's. Hard to find, even on the toob. Morning Sun is one of his best imo. Not quite the same vocal styles, but the same kind of feel. This is one of those albums you must have the LP of. The CD kills it.
