That's some nice stuff Bub, good to hear he's still around these days as well....usually when I discover a new great musician it turns out they died years ago (Jackson C Frank, Bill Chase etc)

Lots of good female singers have character in their voices....even today. 

So many come to mind.... I particularly have e number of favorites.....mostly in the country/folk world

Emmylou Harris is first and foremost, Trisha Yearwood, Kathy Mattea, Allison Krauss, and going back to the 70's one of my early favs was Sandy Denny

What about Peggy Seeger singing The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face in 1957....today's "American Idol-esque" singers could learn a thing or two about vocal ornamentation from this.
