So my wifes monitor became intermittent as far as working.

Noticed it would get unusually hot coming out vents.

It finally dropped out all together.

Come to find out there is a class action lawsuit about this prob.

So heres the fix I came to:
Disassembled down to Motherboard
Surrounded the Video chipset with 2 layers of foil tape
Broke out the TORCH and warmed the board to just above 200 degrees
Let cool and wahlah!!!  SAVED IT-WOOT WOOT

That's almost as crazy as how I fixed the Yellow Light Of Death on my Playstation 3.

The 'fix' that I found on u - toob for it is so you can get it to boot long enough to get your saved games off the HDD. You stick a hair blow dryer in the back of it and let it blow on high with high heat for 15 minutes.

Fixed it long enough for me to use it for a few days until it died again. Then I did the hair dryer trick again just long enough to get my saved games off ... ya know, because I thought I had it permanently fixed while it was running for those few days and I didn't see the need to waste the time to get the data off. Doh!

The permanent fix is to strip the entire PS3 down and take out the motherboard. Wrap it in tin foil and bake it for 10 minutes at 425 degrees. But the problem is, you have to take off heat sinks, and a bunch of those hair thin connectors. Chances are you'll destroy something else doing it.

They do this with dead video cards too.

TLDR; sounds like intermittent solder connections? usually applying heat causes thermal issues, but maybe you guys are resoldering bad connections???

yup exactly.

Takes about 210 to warm the joints enough to get a good connection back.

The poor design with heat build up is enough to make the connections weak.

Hopefully I can get about another year out of it but if it crashes tomorrow, it was worth a shot.

I could use a spare boat anchor anywho

I recently got the flashing donut problem, with the original xbox, to stop blinking. I put my foot through the box and then threw it a the brick wall by my trash cans. It hasn't blinked since.

My wife bought me a new XBox. It had better shape up.
