Hey Charlie
Ill see if I cant find that video I watched that has a tech doing it for ya.
I had to go into a shop for a part and he had ALOT of the DV9000 in for just that. He doesnt do this type of repair though and wanted to do a MB Swap-UHHHH NO lol
Anyway, I used the same tape that I use in the HVAC industry. You can take aluminum foil and triple it up or so.
Once you get the motherboard broke down with the fan removed you will see the slave board the video chip is mounted to, PROTECT around that board. This is the one you want to heat up angling you flame away from the chip down at an angle at the board towards the foil making sure you warm the connections from board to board.
Sounds confusing but you will see it once you are down to that point. I didnt have any probs getting down to that point other than I popped a tang off of the keyboard strip connections which I had to replace. (If you havent dealt with these, there is a little black piece that PIVOTS up to release the cable-BE CAREFUL not to break off).
Ill get back with the link if I can find it
