FLstudio is fine and I'd like to get a full version eventually but it's not geared towards flesh and nail artists.

I guess I'm slowly becoming obsolete. :-(

Logic users need to get off it and start thinking about an alternative program for the Mac.

I think it's gonna Rain soon.

I don't get Logic though being so high. Logic is dead in the water and they are basically not developing it any more as far as I can see. It was a leader for a while but many programs including Studio One have far surpassed it now. Logic users need to get off it and start thinking about an alternative program for the Mac. It really has not been updated for years now.

And that statement is based on? Absolutely nothing. I thought so...

As much as I value your input on certain things Jeff, that's a rather empty claim. Logic is doing just fine. Yes, the last major upgrade has been released 3 years ago - but Apple has been releasing a steady string of free updates ever since - the most recent earlier last summer. Maybe that's not standard in the industry to release free updates for so long instead of systematically asking customers to upgrade every year or two in the hope that maybe the new version will work as advertised; but as far as I'm concerned, I'm all for it.

I do own Studio One and I like it a lot - but I can't for the life of me figure out how someone would claim that it is "by far superior" - unless they've never worked w/ Logic and have no clue what they're talking about. Notation, advanced MIDI functionalities - the likes of which Studio One can't even pretend to hold a candle to, and so on... Even if Presonus tried to copy the implementation, track comping STILL works better and faster in Logic (no need to "promote track", comps are automatically saved and numbered, accessible w/ a single click, and so on).

And before you blame it on me not knowing the software or not having worked w/ it long enough - I've bought Studio One around the same time as I bought Logic. I even own the latest books about Studio One. I've used it and done my homework, and I know it pretty darn well. In fact, I'm even turning my studio owner friends onto it.

So, really, from Varispeed to track comping done right to all the shiniest new bells and whistles that make a decent 75% of all the major upgrades - Logic 9 has it. And if innovation takes time, so be it. A few years from now, Studio One users will benefit from it, just like they've benefited from Logic's GUI and track comping made easy. ;)

EDIT - FWIW, Apple recently acquired Redmatica, who specialized in audio editing and sampling - something tells me that EXS-24 and sampling in Logic will be brought to a whole new level.

Well, Jeff did perform the Rain Dance... But it's not so much just a Logic thing as the empty statements that gets me.

I probably shouldn't have spoken out loud there and Jeff I do agree that FLstudios is an "interesting" program (and certainly respect your opinions and input). I just have never really gotten it to work the way I need it to and remember it as the beat machine it was back in the day... and couldn't get it to do what I wanted back then either.

However as I said it will end up in the arsenal at some point but to me I don't really consider it a DAW in the traditional sense because I'm not an electronic artist... yet. That's probably not fair to say but I can't be arsed to try and force it to be like Sonar or Nuendo. Personally I think Ableton might do more for me in that realm anyway.

I still maintain that this type of subjective survey doesn't mean anything because they used the qualifier "best". If they had said "Most Used" or "Most Accessible" then it'd be more accurate but I doubt any pro studios are running FL as their core DAW.

Okay... I'll shut up now.

Cubase was WAY down the list as a were all the serious musicians DAWs (that probably comes off as pretentious but fer crickets sakes I PLAY GUITAR!)   What a joke... and Nuendo? Whar Nuendo? WHAR?!

Cubase was actually 4th....

Well above Pro Junk and ReX2...

There are some pretty innovative and excellent features in Cubase...AND it supports VST 3!!!  (3.5 too -  go figure?)

Sonar still controls the PC Only market...as it's just about the ONLY MAJOR DAW that is still PC only...

I'm sure Rain will be horrified where Logic fell in the poll....

MR has quite a readership....with CM, FM, and lot of other Music Mags...

One thing you'll see.....Digital Performer, if it's stable on Windows...is gonna kick some serious BOOTAY in the near
future....It's not an easy learn...but once you do....look out...

I can tell you this...if Cake doesn't step up their game....they're going to be losing a lot of customers...
When all these other "budget" DAW's , like FL and Reaper are out-performing and out-innovating them...
and including support for technology that Cakewalk is too proud and arrogant to support..
There are some serious issues and questions there....

They better get on the stick...that's all I'm sayin' ...forget the Plugins....get the "substance" - that's what everyone wants..
we can (AND DO) buy plugin's all day long....so that's really not a program "Improvement"  It's a program "BONUS"

The added enhancements are nice...but that's all they are...enhancements...nothing really "ground breaking"
as other DAW's have those features as well, and have for a while...

They've slipped from 5th place last year...to 9th....that's a pretty steep decline...
I know no one HERE puts stock in these things..but, I can tell you this...there really aren't a whole lot
of "Pro's" who use X1 -2....just sayin'....and a lot MORE non-pros use other programs...

I know you fanboi's are gonna ream me...but that's ok..you, too, are entitled to your opinion...

If X2 was the most successful program launch in the HISTORY of Cakewalk. as the "politicians" have stated
....that's pretty scary...we'll see how this plays out...

I'm a HUGE fan of X1 - 2...but I call 'em like I see 'em...that's all....end of story...bye bye...
I'm not "blinded" by "fan-dom"

BUT - that's just my opinion for what it's worth...and they're like ********everyone has one...

Nice....

Just for the record...I'm not a big Cubase fan...I left Cubase for Pro Tools..which I hated...Cubase is an excellent program....and left Pro Tools for X1....which I love...and still love...X2 is even better....but it had the potential to be GREAT...and they again missed the
boat...(my opinion only)

Hi Rain. I used Logic for 15 years producing millions of hours of soundtracks etc so I do know it is a very capable program. FYI I teach sound engineering and there we teach Pro Tools and Logic a lot so I am very familiar with Logic. I also use Studio One at home in my studio so I am someone who has got a handle on all three actually.

Logic is just plain boring now and I am finding more and more students will say can you do this and that and I have to keep saying no, but then I think hang on you can do that in Studio One though. That is happening more and more now.

Apple are not developing Logic and probably won't. Apple seem more interested in consumer things that are making them money than ultra professional software and hardware.

The synths in Logic also all sound the same except for the ESX24. They all have a thinner cold digital sound to them. Not so in other DAW's.

Granted the scoring stuff is reasonable in Logic and Studio One have decided not to put it in at all which I think is a great decision.

You can download the whole of Logic now for $200 so that might give you some idea of what it is really worth. They will more than likely discontinue it all together and rumour has it they will put a version of it inside Garage band and make it free on all Apple Macs. I am even a bit worried about what Avid may or may not be doing as well as they could put a hold on Pro Tools for a while too. Who Knows.
