Who on Earth are the MusicRadar demographic?

The same folks that read Future Music, Computer Music, Total Guitar, etc...

I'm more of a Sound on Sound reader myself.

FREE FL STUDIO UPDATES FOR LIFE!
This might be hard to believe but buying FL Studio not only gets you the latest version but all future FL Studio updates free.

This means you'll receive FL Studio 11, 12, e.t.c., absolutely free as we believe you should have the functionality you paid for, bugfixed and updated, for as long as we develop FL Studio.

FL Studio 'Boxed' purchases ...
Starting from FL Studio 10, Lifetime Free Updates were extended to all FL Studio 10 Boxed versions (Fruity, Producer & Signature Bundle).

Find out what new features our customers have received for free over the last 12 years on our history page.
Lifetime Free Updates

Does this mean you will get everything we develop for free from now on ?

Not everything: A lot of the new stuff we develop is built in to FL Studio and is included in the Lifetime Free Updates. We do this to improve the application and keep it competitive with other software on the market. As the industry grows so does FL Studio and what it can do. You win!

Sometimes when we develop something new, like a software synthesizer or other module, we investigate whether to build it into the main application and include it free, or offer it as an optional add-on purchase.

Don't worry: There will always be new features and or synths, FX, e.t.c., provided free with each update released. Perhaps most important, you will ALWAYS be able to download the most up-to-date and bugfixed version and use it free. Other software companies charge you to fix the bugs they created in the first place? We think that sucks, so we don't do it to you.

Yes Mike it is true. A good way to get into it cheaply as well is to buy the previous version new on ebay. eg I bought FL9 for a very reduced price. Then pay the $30 or so and get free updates for life. I was sent version 10 and updated all very easily.

They have got a good system for updating their program by replacing the whole program the same as Studio One. Everything stays the same in your install, all the content etc you just change the core program. It is very easy to download and install.

The program itself is also very stable and works very well. It is just a very different system to get used to. It can record normal multitrack audio and treat it the same way as a normal DAW does but it also excels at looped based patterns. It makes you think of your music in terms of patterns.

The mixer is quite different to what you would expect and the virtual instruments sound excellent and also a bit different. I think the whole program has a certain sound to me. Every audio track is treated like a sampler being able to be played back at any pitch complete with filter and envelope generator. The step sequencer is great too. I think you have got to spend time using it to stay familiar with it.
