OK, this may border on a TOS violation....

but the Nobel's Peace Prize winner was announced today - and for being a non political prize, there sure seems like there are a lot of politics involved. The winner of 2012 is the European Union.

I beg your pardon?

Hey, you guys haven't had a World War in over 66 years.

Hat's off... that's better than the previous 2 centuries of bickering and conflicts... No?

World war? no. But it's bordering on civil wars in a few countries in the EU, and EU isn't doing much to help it. It can be said it's the EU that caused the tension in the first place. And things are pretty bad in quite a few countries and "Peace" isn't a word that I would asociate with "EU" right now.

Another important thing, EU countries are fighting wars other places, it doesn't matter where it is. They're fighting wars. Nuff said.

And then there's the last several winners - who reeeeeeally doesn't stand out as Peace Prize winners when you compare them to these people, up until 2006 that is.

This isn't what the Peace Price is about. Talking about pissing on Mr. Nobels wish if you ask me.

the current committee is NOT doing their job properly! No doubt in my mind, they have some personal agenda going on!

I have been reading Kissinger's Diplomacy and it's account of the way Europe used to have a war every few years just for the fun of it and how that sort of regular disruption served as some sort of *diplomacy* and balance of power, which was thought to promote peace in the long run.

I'm sorry to have seemed insensitive to all the details you have mentioned.

The issues you bring up seem pertinent and worthy of consideration.

all the best,
mike

No need to appologize Mike And sorry if I seem a little to pissed off about this. Because I am. My country have the privelege to hand out this price to worthy winners and I'm getting more and more embarassed every year over who wins it. They're not neccesarily bad people, just bad candidates. Giving it to the EU, however IMHO etc, is really pushing it and there will probably be a lot of demonstrations and I think I'll join them. Mostly to demonstrate my disdain towards the committee.

Europe have no history of peace, why start pretending now

I agree ProjectM. IMO, The Nobel Peace Prize has lost it's value.

I think the Nobel Peace Prize lost its relevance back when, oh I don't know, they awarded it to Yasser Arafat
