Since I've got my mac mini I started to play with Garage Band
and I fell in love with its simplicity. Most of the time features of
Garage Band are all I need in my simple projects plus mac mini
running it has no problem with any noise like ground loop, latency etc
which I used to have on Windows laptop. I'm not sure if I'll not switch 
to mac computers completely in my music studio.

Is anybody here using Garage Band for serious projects or just for fun?  

My music needs stuff a bit more powerful than that...  But if that works for you, go for it....

I switched from Sonar to Logic last year and surprisingly my songs sound exactly the same in either daw.

As an acoustic guitar player and singer my main concerns are room acoustics, my technique and song content. 

For me any daw works. It's just a case of familiarity with its controls.  

I like to use Logic for fun with a desktop mic (Blue Woodpecker) set up all the time when inspiration takes hold of me.

I tend to use GarageBand on my phone or iPod when I'm traveling, so I can at least get a song down in some form. A couple are pretty robust, but I don't consider them finished.  Need to recreate them in Sonar or more likely, Reason. 

But yeah... If I played guitar and just needed some drums, a bass and some keys... Would totally be enough for the most part.

I have it installed but I never used it, except for the piano tutorials. Logic is my DAW of choice and I simply can't find the time to mess w/ GB.

However, most of my favorite albums have been recorded and mixed w/ much more rudimentary means than what's available in Garage Band. In fact, pretty much anything that was recorded before the late 90s.

But since making music is more and more about programming and sequencing and chopping up things to quantize them, GB indeed may not be up to the task.

If you are working with a live band..   Hence, "garage band," that is one thing..   But a lot of us a dance music producers...



I need something with a bit more power!!  I've got audio layers, and instrument layers, and complex mixing situations, and complex automation schemes, and plugins to manage..   Music production is/has been getting more complicated..   What can you do?  Art is a reflection of life...   

Oh I don't disagree. I've worked on dark electro for a long time and still have a few projects which integrate elements of that. As such, the exhaustive midi capabilities of Logic are a must for me.

Still, coming from the land of open reels machines and 4 tracks, even a basic application like GarageBand is impressive. We're spoiled.

and isn't that sad? Making music should be as in old days when few guys meet in the studio and make a record playing live in few takes.
Today  we don't know anymore if "musician" can actually play live what he/she recorded in studio. Actually we know that most of the time 
they cannot play it without sequencers, auto tuners and sh#it...
