From my observations, I think I have a handle on how music works.
- Parent/Teacher/Pirate Captain tells kid, "You'll never amount to anything."
- Kid has too much free time and uses an inordinate amount of it learning the art of making music.
- Kid uses music in an attempt to gain popularity among a certain segment of the population.
- Kid grows up being told that there is no future in music, no hope of ever meeting the "right person", and no chance of any future happiness whatsoever.
- Kid ignores all advice and rocks out anyway.
- As an adult, Artist works a bogus day job to finance Operation Get Out Of Parent's Basement.
- Artist attempts to earn a living with music only to learn why Starving Artists have that name.
- Artist finds a soul mate, finds happiness, and creates a future.
- Artist learns that there is more to life than a rusty van/truck/wagon with enough space to haul gear, $50 a week to play for 6 hours, and being asked to play Freebird 18 times per night.
- Artist pitches a tent/builds a studio/uses an unwanted room in the basement to create a place where music can live.
- Artist spends ridiculous amounts of time posting in the Coffee House.
I'm not entirely sure about that sequence, though. YMMV
