While we're back on the subject, are there different kinds of DAT tape?

Tom said he'd send me his old machine in that other thread, but I don't want to waste his time if I can't use it.

I can't find mine, they are buried in a mountain of boxes at the moment. They were really small, about 1/2 or 1/3 size of a cassette and expensive as all *BLANK*.

Were there different kinds, such as the difference between VHS and BETA-MAX or is a DAT tape a DAT tape period?

Thanks
AFAIK there was only one type of DAT tape approx 2 1/4" x 3". And there were no differences in players.

Mooch will tell you I'm wrong though.
Thanks.

Ya know, was it my imagination, or did those darn things sound great? I loved mine, but I bought it used and it broke within a couple years and I couldn't afford to get it fixed.

The Maillard Reaction

Hey bapu,

Just wanted to let you know...

D.A.T. tapes are ALREADY digitized.

Some digital transfers may be hampered by the Serial Copy Management System but most of the later decks dropped all those features.

Good Boy. ;-)

best regards,
mike

DOH!!!!

Guess I should diagrammed it as:

DAT -> analog cable -> soundcard -> SONAH -> digital WAV files.

So, what format were they in on the DAT tape?  Is DAT tape16 bits?

Honestly don't remember. These were made from 1997/2000.

Ya, but I'm a lazy tart.

Besides it made a good retort to McQ, no?

I've used one before. About the same time period. I still have an unwrapped blank tape. I always wondered what format they were.

"Digitizing DAT tapes"  Hmm...

Does this entail making the 1's bigger and the 0's smaller?
