You got DAT right.

Are you gonna replace the drums and emulate a con-soul on yer catalouge?

First I gotta check 'em all with ARC 2 before I make those heady decisions. With pure digital copies I should be able to make more educated decisions, no?

What's the ADAT model?

If it has varispeed you should be able to halve the transfer time.

If you had a Toslink cable I would think you could have done 8 tracks a time too.
Which would equal (Transfer Time / 8 / (Varispeed to the power of 2))

In other words it would only have taken you 17 milli dulcimers instead of 82 hours, roughly.

If you'd have hidden behind your speakers you could have just about heard it coming out of your video wall.

Don't forget to wear bicycle clips when transfering audio too, they are available from all good music retailers.  Download them first don't ever stream them, especially if you are after a secret nashville tuning which changes according to the length of the string.

If in doubt look at any Roland financial chart for reference.

If you can't make the right connections of course you could ignore all this and do what you were doing in the first place.  It might be easier given the circumstances.

The important thing is to show that you have a complete grasp of everything, whilst having an inner unswerveable conviction that others are incapable of grasping anything.

If you have any difficulty with any of this, talk like you are interested in buying a fine guitar instead so everyone will think you are awesome.

Oh, I forgot you already have an Alembic, no?

It's a 2 track Panasonic SV3700* DAT not an an 8 track ADAT.

It has TOS/Link and AES/EBU but not lightpipe.

My RME Fireface UFX has AES/EBU and the 2xADAT I/O (not the 1xADAT I/O and SPDIF option).

So I connected a high quality XLR to the out of DAT (AES/EBU) and the IN of the RME (AES/EBU). Selected AES/EBU in SONAR (as a test). Hit record, started the DAT. No signal. Checked my Total Mix software (which controls the RME) and the levels are set but no signal is getting in.

Sheesh, anyone but me can do this.

I'm gonna have to fly Mooch out here. He'll get it done for me by 9:00AM this Saturday morning.

*In another fred I called it an SV3800. I was mistaken (not wrong). See? It's been that long since I even looked at this box.

The AES/EBU connectors are the common ground between the two devices anyway so that's the way to go.

You might have to consult the book of words (heaven forbid the manual!!) to get a signal out of the right connector on the DAT machine and how to pick it up at the UFX end.

You won't of course be able to transfer 4-8 tracks at a time either going that route.  But I see it's only 2 track anyway.

(I'm shrugging at myself now)

edit: As far as I can ascertain the first DIP switch on the back of the Panasonic is the digital I/O format selector. IEC 958 = ON (UP) AES/EBU = OFF (DOWN). The other three dip switches should be as they were.  That should solve the issue as I reckon the RME is smart enough to work out what is coming in on it's own.
