Greetings all!  It's been a while since I posted anything.  I recently discovered Warren Huart's "Produce Like a Pro" series on YouTube and there are tracks you can download to practice your mix skills.  So I downloaded the 50+ raw tracks with no FX on them and went to work.  Lots of Softube and a few Waves plugins, as well as use of Softube Console 1 on every track/buss.

The tune is Little Empire's "Stay New", and this is my take on it.  The song was a pop rocker from start to finish, but I cut out a lot to make the song much more dynamic (IMO), and I did not add any additional instrumentation.

Feel free to crit....

I think you did a nice job.  The mix sounds very natural and balanced for this type of song.  I think you controlled all of the sibilance which is amazing considering how many "s" sounds are in the song (plus a female singer).  My only crit is the amount of compression on the drums.  However, it is all a matter of taste.  The only other thing I would test is the amount of dynamic range the tune has.  Sounds low.  If I were to guess, 3db DR.  Check out TT Dynamic Range Meter stand alone.  Free somewhere on the web.  8db seems to be the magic number but I go for 10db.

I also have been practicing mixes at Dueling Mixes.  John

Thanks for that feedback John.  Good stuff.  The drums in this tune gave me a fit as the transients were a mile high.... so the compression was a compromise.  My crest factor was not very good.  I used Drum Replacer to get a snappy sample on one of the snare tracks.
Thanks again.

Tony, I'm afraid I can't be of a whole lot of help here, as I'm not familiar with the original, and I was listening to your mix on my pc speakers.  FWIW- It sounded pretty good there.  Sorry I can't be of more help.
