so with wix you don't have to register your domain? that nice....

Wix works like word press in that the host site is in the domain name. So you could have a site that looks like offnote.wix.com or offnote.wordpress.com. In both of these situations the site would be free. Both services are good some of the features are a bit different.

Wordpress also offers things like website hosting, domain names, additional space, custom designs by techs, Video press (allows you to use there player and upload your own videos) site redirect, and other things like that. I think they have some great looking templates. after you load a template you can change settings within the template.

Wix is also a great place to build a site. not sure about any extra features or services they may sell. But their free sites are good too.

I use a go daddy domain hosted site.... I pay a small fee for the domain and the hosting is free. Small banner on top of the page is the price I pay for having free hosting.

I tried some of the "nested" sites and didn't like their company name being in my website address....

Daryl . . . THANKS for the props on the studio.  Now if I could only get motivated to record something.  I do a lot of going in sitting then turn around turn the light s off and leave.

I'll come and use it for you - save it getting dusty :)

hi Daryl:

I'm a huge proponent for Wordpress.

Purchase a domain at GoDaddy and download wordpress right to your GoDaddy server. Plenty of free templates.

Here are a few I've made up for clients, friends; (I have little experience in website design)

mural-artist.net (paid template)

losneighbors.com (free template)

There is a learning curve to Wordpress but Lynda.com has some excellent tutorials for a nominal fee.

Just building a website is one thing; Plenty of hosts will give you free website building tools  but SEO is paramount; and this is where wordpress shines; plenty of free search optimization plug-ins and a clean easy to read code.

thanks everyone for the great advice - keep it coming.
Remember, she is a simple soul (thankfully she never reads this forum) so it has to be easy peasy.
I am pretty good at this sort of stuff but I don't have time (rather be recording) and if I'm not careful, I will be roped in to doing it.
You guys rule
