since I'm all but positive that X2 will be my last upgrade...
wondering what could be offered for the future of DAW's
that could change my outlook?

I'm laughing as although you and I may not be able to think of anything more we'd want just now, but I wouldn't be surprised if something comes before too long that really does warrant the overused 'game changer' tag.

And so it goes.

I do think mostly though we are looking for refinement being as most things today have plenty of capability.

Well after numerous reads and no ideas I'll add mine anyway...

I'm tired of all this Mickey Mouse stuff. If I'm going to use virtual everything
then I want virtual everything to full scale.

I want to slide on a helmet and dive into a world of "real world" recording.
Virtual sound rooms with virtual musicians that I can tell to play with more swing...
move the mic's on the amps....turn the knobs on the amps...a "real environment".

To set a virtual Neve board and control it with my virtual hands....enough of this
Mickey Mouse mouse and keyboard.

Yep, if the guys that build this computer stuff want to impress me they're going to
have to up the anty. Right now it's like playing pong and the most enjoyable part
of it is still playing instruments....the software and computer is just a bunch of crap
I have to deal with to get what I want and I can see a much more enjoyable way
of getting it. Tired of the little pictures of amps...I want a real size virtual amp in a real
size virtual recording room. Hell they blasted spit from bugs at me at Disney years ago..
I should be able to get a little air movement from a real size virtual amp!
I want the sound to move in relation to me walking around in that room and when I
close the door entering the virtual control booth.
Now that's where I want to be and until it's here....pftt with with these upgrades of the
same ol same ol. Additional controls for colors and crap just aint going to float my boat.

Whatever...
I know what features they're going to need to open my wallet again. I don't
spend money to go in circles.

without them. I pay them to make it fun to record and now I think they've reached there
maxium offer for that.

I meant brilliant quote - you are absolutely right. A lot of things in life can be put in the same terms.
