The Maillard Reaction

Last night I worked sound for a night club promotion for an regional outfit that sells costumes for parties.

The ad agency found 9 very pretty ladies to model skimpy outfits on stage while we video taped the event.

For any number of reasons no one thought about the fact that the club doesn't have live sound... so in addition to sending sound to cameras I ended up laying out two cables and mics to the stage for the MC's and fed a send to both the Cameras and the house DJ's rig.

The DJ ended up letting me work the levels on his rig as I attempted to mix for both the cameras and the house sound.

It was the first time I got to joke that I had two turntables and a microphone(s) and I got the very simple pleasure of riding the music up in between the MC announcements so that the girls could dance and grind for the crowd and judges.

Good times.

By the time it was over it had gotten so crazy that I was in a pretty lively mood.

When we interviewed the "winner" who had on a rather skimpy air force pilot costume she stopped to make an "adjustment" and asked me plaintively "can you see my nips?". I did what any middle aged, vision impaired, red blooded good Samaritan would do; I leaned in and took a good long look and then looked her in the eyes and said "nope... you're good".

:-)
They pay me to do this.
:-)

Good times.

mike

Hey! It's off topic music related.

You go right ahead Mike.

Got some pics? Video perhaps?

I'm extremely interested in how you hooked everything up, but I'm a visual kind of guy. You could explain it to me all day, and I wouldn't get it. Best to just post some pics, or vid.

I have high speed internet access now, HD vids would be good.

:-)

I'll let you know when the ad agency gets the video edited and posted for the "viral" campaign.

That's the sort of positive attitude that makes every one think of you as an olpal.

Tonight it was Sheila's turn at the counter in the store downstairs from me.

It's a standard local Co-op store selling groceries and last minute conveniences, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary.  It's so ordinary it wouldn't get a mention aside from the fact it's the store that is situated beneath my apartment and the venue for what was about to happen.

I walked up to her and she said "The usual?".  I said "sure".

I gave her a fiver and she obliged along with giving me a small amount of change, and without a further word spoken except a mutual and cheery 'Goodnight', I left.

You couldn't write this stuff, it just happens.

The account of a simple episode like that reminds me of how easy it is to appreciate the best of a moment.
