The song is Wild Mountain Thyme.
 
The target venue is at a wedding reception played through a typical DJ PA system.  I don't know the make, model or configuration of the PA system that will be used.  I'm assuming it will be 2 channel stereo.  The performance context is that the tune will be played for the father/daughter dance (the father wanted to record the tune he would dance to with his daughter).  So the venue will be "respectfully quiet".
 
I'm looking for critiques and comments on the mix.

This is a very smooth sound -- the instruments are well blended and the mix is terrific.  Perhaps the vocal harmonies could be better balanced in that the main vocal overpowered the harmony in places. Well done -- surprised you haven't gotten more listens here but then...

Your observation is coincident with the client.  He had also indicated that there was indeed some minor balancing of the lead and background vocals in a few areas.

Yes, I agree about the background vocals.  May I suggest cutting back on the reverb too.  Reason being, I'm thinking this will be played in some sort of hall.  The hall is going to add a lot of natural reverb.  Also, there is a pretty good pop at 2:59 (on purple) you may want to fix.  Other than that it is very, very, nice mix.  I listened on my studio monitors.

I agree with the smooth sound and good mix comments. I might suggest you make certain you also have a good mono mix just in case it's a mono PA. I did do a quick mono check and it seemed ok. If I were you I'd make sure.

To all:  I've discussed with the client everyone's suggestions so far.  Here's what we agreed to do:

• Remove the "pop" on the word "purple" just around 3:00 on the lead vocal track.
• Remove two "ticks" on the lead vocal track on the last two vocal stanzas due to clips that were split on non-zero crossings.
• "Re-master" to get rid of unexpected/unexplainable dropout at beginning of song.

The "re-master" seemed to bring the background vocals out in the mix due to using the new Cakewalk Adaptive Limiter on the vocal bus and master bus.  As such we decided to leave the balance of the background vocals where they were.  (The client also was hesitant to change the balance on the lead and background vocals or reverb since we had previously taken quite a bit of time to get them sounding like he wanted.)

I got to listen to the second mix. This is one of my favorite songs and I play it at gigs. Your version does it justice. Smooth mix, lovely pennywhistle/flute part as well.
 
However, at around :41 and again at 2:46 a kind of rich baritone voice is added, which brought in my opinion a kind of parody quality with it. Let me guess - nothing you can do about that, right?  Hopefully that's just my observation and everyone else thinks it's OK.
 
I'd like the woman's vocal a little louder. She has a nice voice from what I can hear.
