Firstly your comment is sheer hyperbole.. not "everyone" is heading to SAAS, and secondly, you make two huge "first world view" assumptions...

1. Everyone is willing to rent, and never have permanent access to, software. They are not.
2. Everyone has constant access to high speed internet, for free. They dont.

Software as a service and subscription model is where everyone is heading, not just Adobe. Again, not a likely scenario either way as Adobe isn't likely to pick up an asset that is bleeding red ink.

Well, they do have a major office in Mass., and if any company could properly market a product like Sonar, it would be Adobe, since they are big players in the online advertising and analytics scene.

However, I sort of agree with most folks on this thread -- Sonar would probably stop being Sonar pretty soon after it was acquired...

Linear Phase
You people do not seem to understand that Cakewalk is not for sale.  That Gibson could have divested the brand if they had wanted to.  The strategy is not hard to see: hold on to the intellectual property, and warehouse the trademark.

The intellectual property: some patents - may be well worth keeping.
The brand:  could be very profitable to license, or to just brand some new products with.

NOOOOOOOO ... plz ... they are the ultimate ... kill software that competes ... and they are getting worse ... Flash is just about gone, and they are still adding updates and trying to sell you something or other ... is that the way to market Sonar?
