I like the Vox Lil Night Train

Tiny amp,  2 watts,  HUGE sound.  Buy just the head and plug into your own cab.

Watch the vid to at least the point where they connect it to a Marshall 4x12 cab...

Yup... Vox has some sweet amps....

I picked up the Vox AD30VT a few years ago. I bought it to use at church and leave it there rather than dragging my Boogie in and out. It had a tube in it with hybrid circuitry and digital modeling of a bunch of amps. 3 preset channels all foot switchable made this a versatile little amp. I had a power knob on the back side to control the output amp section mater level while leaving the pre gain circuit alone.

I think I gave about $250 for the amp, cover, and the foot switch brand new. Guitar Center....  I sold it to a buddy after I stopped playing at the church and realized it was setting around here just collecting dust.

While it has a tube... the tube was not in the output section.

The amp sounded pretty nice and had some good tone.  I used it to jam a few times where I could crank it and it hung in there pretty well volume wise...... and it could play quietly as well in a singing tone..... for use in the church setting. Compared to the Boogie.... there was no real comparison as the Boogie was exuding tone naturally and sounded much better in a side by side .... but the Vox was also about 1/5th the price of the Boogie. ( priced at Boogie prices for the equivalent Boogie amp in the stores now)

Beepster, if you're interested in pure clean tones only, I have a Mesa Boogie Blue Angel (all tube) 1x12 Celestion custom speakers that has switchable wattage from 18, 30, & 38.

I've always thought that if you can get a good clean from your amp then you are SET. With the right pedals you can go anywhere you want from there but if you don't have that good clean that you like, you'll never get it from effects or pedals. Then again I really love my Boss Bass EQ pedal for tweaking cleans... but you still need a decent clean from guitar>cord>amp. In my case mostly Strats> CVR. I use a Flextone III for just playing along with tracks or songs in the house. I put 2x Rajin Cajuns in my CVR and it really likes them. I had some ceramic Webers in it but it was too loud. I have a VOX AVT-15 too and it sounds nice too. Also a good deal if you can find one is a Crate Powerblock and any 1x12 cab. I run one through a Tweed Deluxe cab with a Texas Heat speaker and it sounds REALLY sweet. It runs a class D power amp. Everyone who plays out should have one for backup.

I thought you had a Gibson bass with Moog electronics (broken)?
Or was that an Alembic?

No,  its a Gibson bass (broken) (now fixed, hopefully) with Moog electronics.

Someone else has an Alembic,  or so we're told.

I have the following mini amps
The Marshall JCM-1 1 W reissue of the JCM 800
http://www.musicradar.com/gear/all/amplification/instrument-amps/guitar-combo-amps/jcm1-combo-551618/review
The Mesa Transatlantic - with 5 separate voicings - 5/15/25 W I think
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2010/Aug/Mesa_Boogie_Trans_Atlantic_TA_15_Amp_Review.aspx
The Mesa Mini Rectifier - 2 voicings. 5/25 maybe?
http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2012/Feb/Mesa_Boogie_Mini_Rectifier_Twenty_Five_Amp_Review.aspx

They rock.  I am amazed at how loud the Marshall 1 W is.  If you are playing at home, it is more than enough amp to irritate your neighbors and your SO.

FWIW - I have either recorded with them (using my Motherlode Speaker Sim) or used them through a 1-12" closed back cab.

The JMP 45 reissue into a 1 watter is awesome too.  I just wanted the 80s sound.  They are supposedly doing a DSL and something else - 5 total.

I used to have an Egnater Tweeker.  It is nice too. I just had too many.

Sorry for abandoning the thread guys. I was messing with my stupid tester song (and failing miserably). This has been awesome. I've been checking out all the amps online as you guys post them. I agree with the idea a good powerful clean sound is the foundation to greatness. It's why I loved old tube bass amps when I played live. Dial it in and pour on the sauce via pedals or whatnot. I'm impressed by that Lil Nightrain. Vox's have NEVER agreed with my style for some reason. I could be sitting there listening to a guy pulling madness out of a Vox and then try it out myself with absolutely nothing changed and the tone would run away. Very strange. But that one looks like it might not run away from me and it would probably sound very nice through the speakers on my Traynor (even though it's a combo I can pull the 1/4" speaker connector from the head and just use it as a cab... it really is a super cool amp). Not sure where I'm gonna go with this just yet but you all have given a great start to my search. Thanks.
