  • Isn't Tascam the obvious choice to end up with Cakewalk/Sonar IP?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered.  Search did not produce any results.

I was browsing the Tascam site and saw they have a product called "TRACK FACTORY PROJECT" which is a hardware bundle that includes a copy of Sonar.  It's seem if the Sonar code base is going to end up anywhere, it would be with Tascam.

Tascam is owned by Gibson. They were originally going to merge Sonar into Tascam's product line when they originally bought Cakewalk, but did not end up doing that.

I was hoping TASCAM and Cake would bring out a DSD multitrack and editing system when they got married.

I'm sort of curious why that marriage never happened. Not that I wanted the Cakewalk brand to be absorbed by Tascam and cease to be Cakewalk, but there was plan and then the plan got changed, and I'm sort of wondering what changed it...

Maybe Korg could take it on and take it further then even Roland and Gibson ever did!

I like this thread. There is an irony about the title.
