I have it too but it coles akd goes. I really hear it wuen my allergies kick in and my ears fill with fluid. Just went to the doc for it and my ears have been ringing bad. I keep all volumes as low as possible on music and tv because Im trying to keep thE.damage to a minimum.

One odd thing .... i had to stop taking the antihystamines he gave me. I was hearing voices and it was driving me crazy. When i woupd go to sleep, i wouod dream, and i NEVER  dreal. The voices in my dreams were so loud they would wake le up. I read a bit of The Bible every nigjt before i sleep, I stopped taking it when I actually ueard Moses voice in my head. I onow how wierd this sounds guys, just being honest. I was watching cnn that night and i dreamed about one of the ladies who was ontv that night and her voice.was.so loud it scared me when i woke up. :(

I think poor circulation effects tinitus. Mine greatly subsides when i workout or im doing a lot of syrenuous work.

It's funny how many drugs and "natural" supplements cause crazy dreams. I take melatonin to help me sleep and that gives me the most bizarre dreams. I've had vivid dreams with epic action movie plots, like having to escape from a skyscraper from an evil James Bond style villain. If I add the relaxation aid GABA to the mix they just get weirder and more vivid. And if I've had a whey protein shake that day, I usually fart myself awake

Mental note to self:  Pick up some melatonic & GABA...

FWIW - EVERYONE dreams, it's just the most choose not to remember most of them (you can actually develop the remembering as well as initiating the ability to have lucid dreams - now THOSE are really fun!).

I have it in one ear only.  It was brought on by a severe infection in my "eye" tooth on the left side that took too long to treat.  I also had to have a root canal on that tooth eventually, but the tinnitus has never gone away.  some days it's worse than others.

I've found that white noise at low levels tends to help, but high levels of white noise tends to aggrevate it and make it worse.  I work in a lab with a lot of test equipment.  when there are several testers running (lots of fans) the white noise level is pretty high.  that's when my tinnitus gets worse.

I have tried several "over the counter" remedies.  nothing seems to help.

I suppose the noise approach works when the sound is like one high frequency which I occasionally get. I have found white noise works better (than pink) in my case. After reading Beagle's post it got me thinking that the level of the noise is critical. (if it is going to work that is)  I find once I get in front of the monitors though I tend not to hear it at all.

I've been taking 5mg melatonin for years, it helps but I'll have to try some GABA too. Sleep is elusive for me due to the pain meds. My Dr has been insisting on 2x12 hr extended release meds. I cannot stand it and have only been taking one, in the AM. Still I have a real time getting off to sleep but it is getting a little better and since I don't have to take as much stuff to get and stay asleep I can now get up in the AM and not be groggy for 4 hours.... it has been hard lately. Now I have more pain but life is better. He has me on Nucynta ER 150now and I hate it. Going to be some changes made.

Thanks for all the advice. I am pretty sure that my Tinnitus has been caused by pain meds but I have not found an alternative. Injections make me break out in a horrible rash for weeks and surgery just well, scares me. Ringing strong right now. I've been on one thing or another for about 15 years, some of them strong. I prefer a med that I can take when and if I need it rather than something that keeps a serum level all the time, besides not liking it... it has never worked well for me. Oh well... Getting older isn't for sissies. If you are under 50... enjoy it, do stuff because you likely still feel 30. There are a lot of changes between 50 and 60.... just saying.

I think mine will improve once I move out because I won't have a cheap roommate requiring my to have fans going in my face all day

I no longer can tolerate fans either... We always used a ceiling fan at night. Last year I developed "dry eye". IT has gotten better and sometimes I can stand a fan but not one blowing right on me, my right eye will dry up. When it started I sometimes could not even open it in the AM, went to the eye doc, got some Restasis and artificial tears. The Restasis works and now I only need it occasionally. Also, too much computer time (I think) makes both upper spine problems and eye problems. I don't know if you have noticed but most people tend to not blink when on the computer, at least not enough. When we got our first computer, it was a laptop. Of course, being a guy I found a need to see EVERYTHING on the internet. I had bifocals and I don't think it was too bad with the laptop but son we got a desktop and let me tell you, 10 hours in front of a monitor with bifocals will do damage to your neck after a while... just saying. I think over use of the computer cause a lot of my problems. If I had it to do over I would get glasses just for the computer so I would have no need to "crane my neck" for hours... but I am getting off topic, still on health issues though so I guess it is OK. I posted this because if you are like me you don't even consider prevention. Problems are what other people have... until I get them. I wish I had been more proactive about some of these things but I had no idea...

Have you tried a turmeric supplement for the pain? It's been found to help immensely in lots of cases.

Tinnitus has many causes. Antibiotics can cause it, diseases, and loud sounds are the main reasons.

That stuff they advertise on TV...I've tried it and had NO success with it, and it's pretty expensive. It is now sold in Walgreens and other big chain drug stores.

Mine has been constant and pretty loud actually, since my late 20's when I played in some really loud bands. At night we played in excess of 120db and during the days we would often go shooting pistols. A .357 is really loud. Kinda wish I had used ear plugs all the time, especially with the guns, but it's too late now. I have been to a few MD's over the years and none said anything I didn't already know. they all said that short of some sort of miracle, I'd likely have it until I die.  Once the inner ear cilia are damaged, they do not heal.

One band in particular...we ran an average of 118db on stage and during a drum solo the meter actually went to 122db average. In another short lived band, we were so loud that I could hear my ears shutting down in the first song..... like eq'ing out the highs. That band lasted a month or so before we broke up. I tried, as did the other guitar player, to use those fancy ear plugs but the tone didn't cut it.

Mine is a constant freq around 4k. I hear it all day long when I am awake. It gets worse when I am sick. I have simply learned to deal with it as a fact of life and i simply ignore it. I can turn the music up in my ear buds to about the same level and mask it pretty well. The biggest issue is understanding some speech and kids, and people who speak quietly. My wife is on me all the time about "I don't listen" ....I won't go into that any deeper here....

I just gotta play the cards now that I dealt for myself when I was in my 20's.

What kinda pain are you talking about? Remember that trigger points can cause a great deal of pain as well. Pain medications are nothing good...
