I have a hard time even imagining how many is 7 billion - more less
what they may understand or what percentage may be able to comprehend
what they read or if they can read at all.

Steven Covey must really get around.

Hi,

Like things are any different when it comes to "reading" ... EXACTLY the same thing happens ... and it is very clear in the Coffee House ... why do you think that these threads get Bapu'd?

All in all, this has been a comment of mine for a long time in different words. I came from a house that had 3k LP's of classical music, in the days that you sat there and listened to the music and flew with it. Rock music, with its "entertainment" ideal has made a point of making sure that you do NOT listen, or give a damn about it all unless the beat catches your as4 for a few seconds ... that's not "listening" ... per se!

But it doesn't help that the rock music business for the past 50 years has confused the issue between lyrics and music and blurred this line and definition to the point that ... no one knows, and above all no one cares!

And replying to this post is almost an oxymoron ... check out half the replies!

farmers are typically quiet men who keep to themselves and are well organized.

Not in this neck o' the woods they ain't...farmers round here are gobby gits who roar around on ATV's and blame you for not shutting your own gate when their beasts escape and trample all over your garden 'cos they can't be arsed to keep their fences in good nick.

Just sayin'..

heuristic (fast) and analytic (slow) thinking

My current avatar is HAL 9000 or Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer (2001) ... does that automatically make me a heuristic thinker? ... I was actually working on this reply before I finished reading all of the posts.

I read (heuristically) that HAL was just one letter (each) behind IBM.

Right now I'm reading Thinking Fast and Slow which is describing the natures of heuristic (fast) and analytic (slow) thinking.

Example of fast thinking (paraphrased):

Steve is a quiet man, keeps to himself and is very well organized. Is Steve a librarian or a farmer?

Example of a slow thinking

17 x 24

Heuristic thinking will more times than not arrive at the conclusion Steve is a librarian. Yet farmers are typically quiet men who keep to themselves and are well organized. Fast thinking does not take into account that there are actually more men farmers than men librarians.

Unless you are a whiz at math, it will take you quite a bit more time to come to the conclusion of what 17 x 24 is.

Conclusion: Bapu is a heuristic poster.

You're my heuro!

European farmers are diff than here in the states. When I lived in germany farms were way different(for one animals lived INSIDE a large buidling for most of the time,, no "free range") and  they didnt carry a gun strapped to their side or caryy a rifle/shotgun. handy for varmints both 4 and 2 legged....
