bitflipperYou're dating yourself, Ron! I, too, remember when McDonald's signs read "10 Million Served".

Ahem... I don't know what you mean, Mr. Flipper. I'm ah... just a spring chicken... Yeah, yeah. That's the ticket. Spring chicken. Ahem.
bitflipperI do think the vinyl resurgence is a temporary fad, though.

You may be right.
bitflipper I see young people buying turntables, but not the high-end playback systems that would do them justice..

Even in the 70s, not everyone knew enough to buy a Dual which was always a mystery to me.
bitflipperOr, for that matter, even listening to speakers. The rest of the market consists of old farts like us, who buy primarily for nostalgic reasons.

I'd rebuild my record collection, but it would cost a small fortune which I'd rather put into a pair of near-field monitors.
bitflipperIt's not about fidelity. For the younger generation, I think it comes down to bass. They've become accustomed to extreme bass levels that vinyl just isn't capable of capturing in any natural way.

Yup. You're probably right on that point, too. I don't really understand that one, either. Whenever I see someone driving with the bass cranked like that, I expect the sheet metal screws to rattle right out of the car and recreate that classic Buster Keaton moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0_QE2pBd8c
