  • Any recommendations for a 3TB internal hard drive?

I'm going to need to get a 3TB internal hard drive to use as a backup (I use it with an external toaster though it could be used internally if needed).  Since it seems the technology changes all the time, do any of you have recommendations?  Or ones to avoid?

THIS ONE is my front-runner (both because I've had some good success with Seagates lately and for the price point).

TIA!

No suggestion here. I have been thinking about doing something similar, and I am wondering if anyone knows if the controllers built into the external USB or eSATA drive docks (toasters) will handle drives that big.

I was using one of the NewerTechnologies toaster style docks for my backup drives for a bit. I retired it a couple months ago when I bought a caddy-less removable drive bay... it wasn't an issue of capacity so much as it was speed, this was an older device (probably their first generation) and it was limited to USB2 speeds. Direct connection to a SATA port on the motherboard is a lot faster<G>!

But I would not hesitate to use the toaster style docks if I did not have the empty bay... they are really convenient, and it was reliable for me.

I can't remember if I used my current 3TB with my toaster before putting it inside my PC...  I'll have to see which toaster I've got tomorrow (it's the one recommended by Jim a while back - got it from Newegg I believe.
