  • Two Devices Sharing the same SPDIF Out from DAW?

Hi,

Would anybody know if it is generally safe to connect the SPDIF out from a DAW interface to two separate devices?  Such as with a y-cable?  I would only be monitoring on one of the devices at any given time.

Thanks,

It’s possible to connect an s/pdif socket to two devices, if the connection is optical you’ll need an s/pdif splitter box, they can be got cheaply from Amazon or Ebay.

One thing to watch is that the sample rate is the same on all connected devices.

Not sure how well this would work though.

Thanks tlw.   The connectors are coax.  I wasn't sure if I needed an active splitter box or could just use a y-cable (or adapter).  I would be running everything at 44.1KHz.   Don't want to fry my DAW interface or devices so thought I'd check here on the forum first to get some feedback.

My limited experience at doing this was with an optical cable setup and some time ago. It might be worth looking for advice on more general audio forums.
