sounds like us...  one person builds/burns in/benchmarks (hardware) then moves it over to another area where a different person checks the builders work
then installs audio software/hardware and benchmarks audio..

trip thru our company takes at least a week or longer from the time they start building.. several weeks before they start building..

Guys.....this is indeed an eye opener !

I thought order today, arrive within a week max...considering people were trying to tell me it's easy to build and takes a few hours.

Is there really that much demand for music PC,s  ?

Well, Scan do not only make music PCs so there will be other machines being built too. If you look at the estimated deliver dates in the automated emails if all goes well a week from the time the building starts is possible, but realistically it looks like 28 days from the date of placing the order is a good rule of thumb. seems I procrastinated too long before placing the order to get delivery and set things up before I go away for work again.

'Still its lightening fast compared to some furniture we have had on order since November!

Just to top it off, today the old DAW's PSU decided to die. I am getting a new one fitted as this will become the "office" PC.

Well, Scan finally delivered. My inital impressions are very good. The build appears to be of the highest quality.

There were no issues setting up the Quad capture and A-800 pro with the new Win-8 drivers. X2a and the other Cakewake stuff is installed. Komplete 8 is going on now.

Glyn,

quality, support, compatibility... you get what you pay for..
(well some of my competition you dont)

i didn't recommend Scan due to price

scan = THEIR "support" for me has been woeful , to a point where I'm blacklisted .. remember when there was the mess up with the sandy bridge boards?  I sent them back a none working machine.. even took video of it!!!.. they said it worked.. wanted to ship back the CPU *BUT* without a MOBO!!! and I would have to wait a month for that due to "quarantine"

I stick to companies like ebuyer , which I have used for years (I thought I'd try scan for a change and regretted it) .. and I used to use scan the odd time.. scan dragged their feet and it took AGES to get my money back.. and even then it was only for PART of the order.

To the OP... if you can built ya own.. pay Jim to give you advise for parts instead.

I've built machines over the years, maybe not as optimised as they could be.. but work for me.

Inta have been around a long time.. scan "exs" brand, maybe hasn't been around as long ? . DV even do their own machines or did.

scan cost me a fortune in phone calls also, and didn't think it was important to call customers back or even email  for DAYS later..  even when they were "out to lunch".. customer service?... I think not

from buying to refund.. it almost took a month for them to sort out.. and I had to chase them up repeatedly.. AND left a message on a forum for the owner of the company.. which normally does the trick , but didn't in their case.

ebuyer , for parts = no problems for YEARS

well i would have to say you are the first person to say that about scan.
i know Pete very well.
that whole sandy bridge board this (which only dealt with 2 Sata 600 ports anyway) was a pain for ALL involved.
from system builders to mobo manufacturers and obviously intel.
we dealt with it in 3 ways
1) accept as is (really no big deal) as nothing was any faster on sata 600 over 300 at the time including SSD (40%)
2) wait for the new boards (25%)
3) add a Sata 600 controller to the system for free (35%) this actually gave 4 ports sata 600.

Well I have run out of time, I have to leave the beast for now and go off and earn some money. I will be away for several weeks.

I have installed just about everything major except the Toontrack stuff which will take a little while! The only snag is a problem with IKMuliimedia's authorization manager which I will have to sort out when I get back.

The PC is pretty impressive, very solidly built and quiet. The case is BIG, check the dimensions if space is a premium. As to be expected its very fast and loading the big 3rd party Kontakt libraries off a SSD cached 1TB hard disk has removed the load time frustration I was having with the old system.

well you are based abroad and maybe deal with them exclusively.. as ebuyer and more don't have a dedicated DAW building section.

selling me the parts then keeping them for a month and denying they were defective even though I had video proof of them...

I'm the only one YOU have heard who have had issues... (much like you are better qualified to talk about companies over there) ... but maybe you only deal with EXS and not scan as a bigger company.

either way, they will never get my money again.. I still have the "wonderful" emails of how p*** poor their service was.

I think Im gonna go Inta Audio.....I really dont want to spend the extra cash on Scan or Rain.

Nobody seems to be able to do the Inta spec for less than £1k.
