I purchased my laptop this past week specs in sig.  sonar x2 studio is saying my realtek hd audio soundcard needs to be disabled.  am I doing something wrong with this in sonar? everything else plays just fine whether it be iTunes, zune software, or any video.  do I need a new soundcard or something more powerful?  or am I able to use the soundcard that is installed in the laptop.

I would suspect that your USB microphone is being seen by the system as an audio interface, and having the two audio interfaces on the computer is causing a conflict in Sonar. Have you tried unplugging and disabling or uninstalling the USB microphone driver in device manager, and removing it from the list of audio interfaces in Sonar? If that makes the problem go away, then you know where to look at least. If a standard microphone will work then you have a solution of sorts.

People report a lot of problems with conflicting audio interfaces, and to the computer things that do not look like an audio interface to you are logical audio interfaces. USB microphones are one, and video cards with HDMI that will carry audio data are another.

*BUT* the guide was written with a decent sound card. people who wrote regarding mis-information also DIDN'T include the fact a decent OUTPUT card was needed as well.

I would still get a decent sound card, using a normal USB mic is doable via that, but not straight forward... but USB mic's and + decent soundcard aren't really good for ASIO ..

you could always try asio4all.. but that's like running a Ferrari on rethread tyres.. it's false economy :)

the zune thing etc.. isn't the same , it's not dealing with stuff full duplex OR multi channel .. so onboard is fine for that thing, but it's not the same type of application for an application :)
