You have an authentic and honest voice.  Not as fond of the tune as I am your great lyrics!

Very honest sounding song Herb, I really like it.

Loved it Herb. Only crit maybe the lead vox had a tad too much verb.

Herb, it's good to hear you again.  The message in this song is timely, whether about the civil war or today's battles.  I hear a lot of upper end in this mix but not as much warmth.  That's all I can say, as the performances are terrific.  Congrats!

eph221:  Hey, thanks for listening and commenting. I certainly appreciate it.

daryl1968:  Thanks. This was actually a quick write that surprised me due to the nature of the story and subject.

Bapu:  Quite surprising since the lead vox, IIRC is dry in the track. Perhaps it's the layering that is going that appearance of reverb. The layered vox tracks are 10dB down but I do have a heavier verb on them.

Lynn: I've been lurking for the past year or so and not really writing any "songs". It's good to come "out the the box" and write something as thought provoking as this. My co-writer on this, David, has been after me to write with him for a while. I guess it was a good matchup. Maybe we'll have to write some more stuff. It's good to be back...
I always double think my own mixes. Looking for the balance point. Thanks for your observations and comments. I went back and forth on the vox EQ trying to get it "right". My speakers tend to have a very mid low end tendency, whereas my cans are nice and bright. I spent quite a bit of time mixing this in the cans... took a break and then came back an listened on the speakers.

Herb, excellent mix, as I would expect from you.  I hear what Ed is suggesting about reverb, so its surprising to me that you don't have any verb on the lead vocal.

The only other thing I might comment on is purely personal preference in tones.  I would like to hear a little more "thunk" out of the drums.  Maybe, a touch more Bass.

I was wondering when we'd hear a new one Herb, guess you've been busy working on the new place

This is a well-written song, nicely presented.

Mike:  Getting that thunk and solid bass is critical.... I have to work on that to get it like I want without over doing it.  yeah, the vox track is dry. I don't think there's a verb turned on in the master either. However, there is a vocal buss and I know there might be one in there. The layered vox have their own verbs and they are pretty wet.  Wondering if you're not hearing that and thinking it's on the main.   Just thinking out loud.

James: I've actually been writing but not this kind of music. Lots of  stuff for libraries aimed at film & TV. And yes... that farm is keeping me busy. We got the house ordered so this next month is all about getting the place ready for the house to be brought in. Modular, so it's built in a factory and then brought to the site. A fair amount of site prep needs to be done.

JR:  Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
