Flagrant Regard
Hey there! Nice work guy!

At first I didn't like the distorted voice, but it really fits! It's a cool gritty technique. I would break out the vocals more out front during the chorus - dead centre and clearer (a bit anyhow). The acoustics are nicely panned. Would love to hear a bit more of the drumkit - snare & kick esp. Your songwriting is great. This is a classic country rock piece I could hear on the radio for sure!

Congrats. Great bit of work here! :-)

Hey Herb, from my perspective the song was so damn good all the little mix nuances didn't even register.  This is one excellent tune you guys came up with, and from what I heard it was a pretty good recording of it too.  Your lead vocal was perfect for this song.  Great job, guys!

Hey, that's a catchy tune right there, mature and great sound.  That could be on the radio easy.  Very nicely played, sir.

Herb - this is excellent!  love the guitar work, acoustic sounds great in the mix.  electric is really well done.

I see you say you've done a revision with less verb on some of the vox, I'd like to hear that - first thing I thought as soon as I heard the first words was that there was too much verb.

other than the verb on the vox, this is a great song, great performances and great mix!

WOW! This sounds great Herb! Reminds me of Neil Young song wise but somebody who sounds better at singing.
Mix wise, this sound perfect on my speakers, nothing to complain about mix wise. I wish I had your mixing skills, I remember a few years ago and hearing how you've continually gotten better. No doubt you've put in the work on the playing/singing and the mixing.

Enjoyed hearing this one very much Herb! Thank you for sharing and Keep on Keepin' On my friend!

..... thanks for the detailed and kind comments.  I have a continuous debate with myself about levels on the vox and the eq as well. As I mentioned earlier, there are no plugs on the lead vox to give it a distorted character. That would be my natural singing there. I tried to put some attitude in this vocal due to the nature of the message that needed to be delivered. The main vox is also dry in the track and only gets a light master buss verb with everything else. There are several layered vocals that are identical to the lead that have more reverb and are down in the mix. I'm thinking that the reverb from those tracks are the source of the "excess" reverb mentioned.
Neil Young is one of my favorite songwriters and guitar players. To get that comparison is an honor. If you notice, the groove is very "Down by the River-ish" in it's feel.... with a bit of swing here and there. I'm sure that was merely a coincidence.
It's good to listen to other genre's from time to time. Glad you all dropped in and took the time to comment.

Herb, this is awesome. You know we spend a lot of time trying to make things better...but sometimes the honest truth is we should spend time appreciating what something really is. Maybe there is a minimum standard - like, you have to be able to speak the language for me to appreciate your poem, but see I can even argue against that because I can hear music in another language and it doesn't affect my appreciation.

Honestly dude, this is so good that I want the song! This is as close as you might get to a Dylan, Young or Stills & Nash song, both in it's honesty & brutal nature of being accurate with the emotion required to convey the truth of the thing. It's so good. And you know me - I say what I really think! There you go man - good job, very good job! I love the lyrics and the hook, just phenomenal.

really nice tune herb.....
this is pretty straight up rockin',
with a touch of the country flavor, this is the kind of stuff i usually hear on the CMA awards..
i like the mix as is.

i def hear reverb on the vox,
so if it's not applied directly, it's getting there as an 'after-effect' of having it across something else that has the vox routed thru it...

i think with a song like this, the entire thing is carried on the vocal..
so it should be loud and proud like it is.

i really like the bridge on this thing......
