I'd rather listen to a ticking clock...

I was thinking the same thing the other day when I was sitting on a park bench,
eying little girls with bad intent.

Love Jethro Tull. But you probably love stuff that I'd consider a violation of the Geneva Convention. Some people eat snails but can't stand broccoli. Go figger.

Spinning back down the years, I've always been a big Jethro Tull fan.

Maybe he's just a really big fan of clocks?

I've hated Rush all my life - until a few years ago when I fell in love with they music. If you ask me now, 2112 is probably the greatest rock album ever recorded.

Since then I try to remain open-minded, even about bands that I don't like or never cared for. Jethro Tull is one of those. Although I used to own the special 25th anniversary edition of Aqualung and I dug some of it.

In fact, in recent weeks, I've spent quite a bit of time exploring bands and records I had never cared for or never took the time to listen to. And I discovered that I really dug some of them from April Wine to BOC to Krokus.

I even tried Styx - but I couldn't make it past the 3rd song. They're like the Liberace of rock, aren't they?

Wow, were two of those songs Babe and Mr. Roboto?  'Cause those may have been pop hits, but even most tribute bands refuse to play 'em!  I got to hear a lot of Styx because some friends had a very tight tribute band called Grand Illusion and there are some really good stuff buried in there.  Try to find some older stuff.

2112 is a good album. Personally, I think Moving Pictures is probably their best rounded album. A bit less mechanical but still a bit off kilter.

Styx has some good songs. Yes, they are fairly commercial and they went nutso with Mr Roboto (what the hell were they thinking?) but Renegade is pretty good and Too Much Time On My Hands is a classic.

Back to the OP, I like some Tull.

Hi,

Probably the weirdest and strangest thing from Ian Anderson, is the interview he had with Rick Wakeman in his series ... it's very good, but some of the things he says ... makes you wonder why he even does rock music!

But all in all, as an example, I have no issues listening to RUSH or KANSAS, but they are not my favorites. I will never deny them their musicianship but to me, they were a wee bit too much on the pop side of things, and they were ... an excellent band to play in the early days of FM radio ... great sound and very clean work all around.

I'm way more of an European sound person, but that does not mean I don't like American music ... the SF/LA scenes are massive and have way too many good bands for me not to love them, with only one sad thing ... the American Music "business", killed almost all of these bands ... it's just a wonder that bands like the DOORS put together so much stuff that has such a great movie story to it, and the stuff that JA and GD put together were also insanely good, and mostly very well done. But listening back to all the early GD albums now, you will immediately say ... wow, that's a really good guitarist, and the compositional side of the material is very well done for such a young rock band!

JT, for me, had a couple of great things, but him getting all perturbed over a couple of things and just going back to creating songs for the radio, was a bit strange, and I think that he has repeated himself too much. But I do love PP a lot, and still is the one album by JT that I can play over and over and not get tired of. Some of the other albums are a bit too much on the opinion side, and it feels like a SW song ... shutttttttt uppppppp!!!
