Hi

Loved Jethro Tull for many years, I collected all their stuff. The Songs From The Wood/Heavy Horses/Bursting Out period was my favourite, although I really liked Broadsword & The Beast; for 1982 the heavy use of synths alongside mandolins & electric guitars sounded really fresh to me.

Saw them live several times over the years, and the line-up with Andy Giddings, Jonathan Noyce and Doane Perry was excellent,  but I missed their best days I think.

I watched too many Ian Anderson interviews though, and gradually realised what a hubris-ridden, pompous man he is, especially as he can no longer hold a note in a bucket.. Kind of spoiled their music for me when I heard him talking about past band members, and then when Martin Barre left, that was it, I stopped listening to them.

Given the choice I'd go and see Barre playing Tull's songs these days, he picks some great album tracks to play live  and the singer in his band doesn't attempt an Anderson impression. No bloody flute either...

I liked some of JT's early stuff.

Not listened to anything of theirs for ages though...

Big JT fan here too. That is, up to the nineties.
Some of their concert footage is so brethtakingly great. I'm about to order the Songs from the woods 25-year package. I saw the included concert DVD on Youtube, and it's the best JT concert recording I've seen this far.

Yep, I would have liked to have seen them in the late '70s, with Barrie Barlow and John Glascock, brilliant live act back then. I think IA always under estimated the value of having a 'real band' as opposed to the uncharismatic session players he has now.

Dinnit a couple of blokes around here cover the entire Stand Up album with the help of some other blokes from around here?

Homer Simpson famously claimed that music reached its zenith in 1974 and that it's a scientific fact you can look up.

Myself, I'd widen it to 1973-1977, a period bracketed by Dark Side of the Moon and Songs from the Wood.
