I've never been curious about the iPad until recently.  I'm wondering if it can run a program like MusicReader with Animoog Taurus Bass softsynth simultaneously.

For the sake of anyone following this thread.  I contacted Sweetwater and talked to my rep and his opinion was that multitasking isn't something that the iPad does well.

Dave - that's also what I assumed after hearing about the latest Samsung/Windows 8 tablet. One of the selling point over the iPad was multi-tasking.

Personally, I'd wait for the next gen iPad. But then, I have a preference for Mac.

No, it can't. Once you change the focus (go from one app to another) it shuts down the (sound from the) other app.

Cheers,
Jerry

PS : posting from an iPad, but not hearing YouTube ........

I have Musicreader on Windows and have open with YouTube playing and typing on this message.

I would wait for new crop of W8 Tablets to come out.

The iPad does it well, as long as you aren't trying to run multiple apps that use low latency audio. If you're using an audio app like AmpliTube and a sheet music app it works fine.

I specifically want to run the sheet music view and Animoog in order to get a somewhat reasonable imitation of Taurus bass pedals.  That's it.  For what I would be doing 2ms latency isn't necessary.  5-10 ms would probably do fine.  Would you think that it could do that?

Yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't work fine. Synth on my friend! :D

If you are considering getting an iPad consider holding  off until after Oct 23rd.

There are strong rumors of an update to use the new "Lightning" connector that was introduced with iPhone 5
