You're welcome, IK!

Oh, I see what you mean, Scook...I hadn't highlighted text in my post.  OK, that's an odd work-around (to me anyway), but hopefully I'll be able to remember it.  :)  Thanks!

So, more than one mic, huh?  Well, that might be a little much for this equipment- and know-how-challenged recording star, but we'll see.  Recording in stereo I can handle though.  Not sure why I put it on mono.

Janet, I think you may be confused. Unless you are using a stereo mic, stereo=2 mics. Mono that you are referring to is Sonar's "mono interleave". That is not the same thing as what we are talking about here. You cannot record using one mic and make it stereo. Even if you recorded to where you saw two wave forms on one track, that is not stereo unless there are 2 independent sound sources....in your case, it would be 2 mics. Just wanted to give you a heads up on that. :)

Me??!! Confused??!!  Well, you know THAT'S never happened before!

Actually, as I was typing that, I wondered if that was right...but hey, you never know.  And if fact, that's me...I never know what I'm doing.  :)

Thanks!

i used a single large condenser microphone to capture a rainstick for a song i produced for a band called "Kettlefish"..
i posted lengthy reports and posts here..

anyway, i blended the sound of the rainstick, with actual rain samples..

worked great.

the rain is, of course, very organic, and the rainstick is very, well, in your face....

distance from the mic helps, with a rainstick, unless you are going to do what i did, use 'elements' of it in a mix, rather than feature it in the mix...

the choice of mic is key, otherwise you could end up with a sibelent mess when mixing.....

Thanks for that!  I'll definitely try it again.  It would help if I had a song in mind, but I don't right now.  Just want to capture this thing before it's gone.

exactly.... two mics and two inputs to two tracks both of which are mono..... but the result is stereo.

I was kinda kidding about the whole "record it in stereo" thing..... but it would be interesting..... like some of the old Beatles/Pink Floyd stuff... hear the rain start on one side and slide across the sound stage to the other...

Or better yet.... QUAD!!!!

Ah, ya. I have rain on my synth, but the rain stick sounds neat. Well, "Riders on the Storm" is a song, but then my rain is subdued in the song and you have to listen to where it is at near the frequency of the cymbals of the synth.
Could of made it a little better, but then I am older and still fail and try not to become a grump for the most part.
Ah, what was being talked about - who knows??
Well, stick rain in a song with the rain stick!

or you can listen to the real version by the Doors, better also.
