I know this adds nothing to the discussion, but PROG REPRESENT!!! Great album.
 
To keep on topic: For heavy stuff I reference Toto's Kingdom of Desire, which rocks plenty and sounds modern without being squashed to death like *cough*Rush*cough*.
 
For quieter stuff, anything by Sting is pretty damn nice. 10 Summoner's Tales for example.

Sure, the quality sucks but you get the jist of it.
