Lynn
Several years ago, I posted this song, but since then, I've made a few monumental changes that I'd like to share with you.  For one, I vastly improved my mixing environment by adding new speakers and room calibration software to aid my mixing.  And, two, I replaced the synth bass with a real 5 string Schecter bass, played by my good friend Roger Fife.  This made a huge difference in the song that I had been wanting for a long time.  And last, Sonar has vastly improved, providing me with the tools that I had been lacking to make this mix as good as it can be.   As always, I look forward to hearing your critiques, and I thank you for taking the time to listen.

Haha, this is a really fun song!  Is that you singing?  What a soulful voice.  You had all the right harmonies in just the right places, the length was just right.

Hi Lynn,

I mustn't have been active here when you first posted this, so I've not heard the original.

What's great about this piece is that you have gone back to it, with new/updated skills and knowledge, and tools, of course, and produced a great sounding song.

Having listened to quite a few of your tracks now, over the last couple of years, I know what to expect from you, and this piece is certainly up to that standard.

cheers

Mr. Lynn, I feel a real closeness to your music.  For some reason, I think you might be of my creative bent. You're Q.

the guitar sound is nice.

You're lyrics are great too, a taste of your life.  You have a very manly voice, I don't like to make comparisons, so I won't say you are in a similar vein as Eric Clapton vocal wise.

the string riffage is not what one would expect, but yet it is most perfect.

Keep it Q Lynn

Wish I could clearly remember the original, but this new version is very well done Lynn!

I don't recall the original version either, but I thought the bass on this one works great - that five string sounds deep.    Cool song you've got there, Lynn.   Sounds like you.   I liked the distorted guitar/synth strings taking sides... that was different.

Only one question - what the heck is a piece of scrimshaw?

Lynn,

Another good one, man you are cranking these out.  Very good mix and overall performance.    Love the guitar.
If Defying Gravity was a grand slam you have at least a home run with this one.   Gravity is still one of my favorite songs.

Regards

David, thanks for your kind words.  That is my voice you hear, but the passion comes from the woman I love who inspire this.

Andy, I appreciate your time and comments.  This song kind of began a string of songs and productions that have served me well.

Jesse, thank Q very much.  Eric learned everything about singing from me (he said tongue poking through his cheek).

Dan, you say the nicest things!

Steve, I'm glad you like the bass.  Originally, I combined  two synth basses which sufficed for the time, but that low D really shines on Roger's Schecter.  No substitute for the real thing.

I remember this song, Lynn... maybe because it's such a good tune.  The re-do sounds really good though IMO the vocal could come up and the lead guitar could come down some.

Like it, vocal sounds great. Nice 80's feel to the arrangement and the mix. My only technical input would be to say that maybe the guitar in the right channel is a little too loud and has a couple of fatiguing/harsh frequencies that need taming to stop it distracting from the vocal too much? I would be examining the "honky" 1kHz area as well as the potentially harsh 2.5-3kHz area to see if attenuating a little might tuck that guitar in a little.
