BTW, NT was irrelevant for my purposes. NT=NT 4.0, 2000=NT 5.0, XP was also NT.
 
Windows 1 thru 3 were numerically accurate versions so were also deemed irrelevant in making my point.
 
The conspiracy began with 95 and ended with 10... which numerically should have been 11, unless you count the NTs in which case it should have been 13, but no one wants a 13, regardless of the fact that 13 would have been a more accurate labelling all around.

Well... I've always thought of 8.5 as being 9. And it's the thought that counts, right?!
 
8.5 was sold as the next version after 8. But that defies numbering logic. 8 point anything would still be 8 albeit a sub version. If it's a bonafide new version then it should be elevated to the next highest number.

It's just a Jazz substitution thing:
 
A maj9 chord without the root is really just a iii chord. But since "iii" would be counting backwards they transpose it up an octave and make the 10th the root, so you can think of it as a simple substitution for an inverted 9th chord.

But note that that only works for major releases. If it were just a 9, then 10 would get diminished.

 

It was said of X1 when it came out that it was actually version 9. The X1 designation had nothing to do with the actual version number.

Current Splat is version 23.
