Thanks again
Mully

OK mate. I've passed it on but suspect it may still be out of his range alas.

But you never know!

Cheers.

Hi Kevin, I'm definitely interested, as I was already planning to buy one. But I won't have the money for it until next month. If it's still available, I'll buy it from you. But I'm a little concerned about using it with Sonar X2. I've read some pretty scary things about it's compatibility with the latest version of Sonar. Has there been any progress in fixing this? Thanks, Lee

Hi Lee, if it is any help.... the surface is functional for all basic operations. Main difference in summary here is that I find it much easier to go back to the mouse now for a load of the usual duties such as eq and so forth. In fact I've replaced the trackball with a standard mouse again just to deal with the mouse activity required.

Having said all that, fader and transport control is still great and some of the extra benefits are still there. You have to accept though that the support is over and you've now got a great looking surface lacking full integration under X2 and it would appear the party is over until one of us gets a load of free time and tries to create our own third party support.

The IO box however I have had zero issues with under X2... still very solid and it just, well, works.

Hi Lee,

Mully said it already. With X2 you'll need the mouse for quite a few things that should work from the console (mostly channel strip things like EQ, VSTs). The rest like transport, faders, navigation, extra buttons, etc. still works fine.

With X2 being out for 2 months and NAMM show about 2 months away, I'd bet a lot of money that we'll see X2b within a month (plus a few days). That will shed some light on whether control surfaces are of importance to Cakewalk or not. Other options like MCU suffer from similar deficiencies (from the Sonar side, not the surface).

Definitely no problems with the VS-700 IO box, especially since they fixed that expansion mode with the Octa-Capture last month, but I can only speak of win7 64 bit. There are no win 8 drivers yet available. Some users here seem to have moved to Lynx IO, yet I'm happy with the Porsche that I got for the price of a Ford ... don't need a Ferrari to drive down the same roads. Maybe one day when too much money makes my wallet too heavy ...

Yes the I/O is awesome and so is the Fantom (32 bits editor...).

Keep in mind that this "Porsche" will be upgradable to a turbo super-charged 911 GT-3 once Black Lion Audio finish mine.  I'll let you know soon what's going on with this. The headtech seem very enthusiastic about what can be done with it.

Don't know what to think about the drivers though... work flawlessly with Win7.

With the console, you still can assign whatever function you want to the access panel so there's still a lot of possibilities.

Hey Lee,
Well we have it listed here and few other places but, there really hasnt been any serious effort toward a purchase. If you notice that it still happens to be available next month just let me know when your ready.
As far as compatibility, I have X1, but I actually still use the old 8.5 software along with XP on our other unit, and I plan on keeping it that way until they implement some upgraded drivers  for Win 7/8. So im probably not the best person to ask that question too. But i would like to add that for the unit to still be currently shipped with X2, I would think that implies that most if not all of the issues that users may experience with say the Channel Strip should be addressed. I cant imagine that creating a patch or update would be all that difficult to address with enough time to focus put into it.
So ill also be watching closely to see how they handle this Interface - Controller compatibility issues.
If it does sell before that time, ill be removing the posts, so all can stay up to date.
Thanks,
Kevin
