It's pretty well documented that OCZ aren't very reliable.

I have been using the Samsung 830's without issue, so far.

That's what the new Macbook Pro's (retina) ship with.

I'm not totally impressed with my SSD.  I recently built two PC's, one primarily for Sonar, that has an SSD, and another as a backup and for other uses.  Both have Z77 chipset motherboards, and i7 CPU's.  The other PC has a hard drive only in it.  Other than a little faster boot up, I don't see much other difference.  On a benchmark test I would probably see a difference, but for my uses the difference is a wash.

If/when my OCZ Vertex 4 SSD dies, I'll just go with a hard drive only on the Sonar system.

Well if they are known to be unreliable, they shouldn't sell them. Microcenter says they haven't had a problem with them....

I have three OCZ SSD drives... all work fine.
The drive in question is the lower end OCZ... which really isn't much faster than the fastest conventional HDs.

FWIW, That's why I don't choose to use SSD for a boot drive.
Not a huge difference.

SSD really shines when you need huge amount of disk-streaming polyphony (running Hollywood Strings or LA Scoring Strings aka LASS)

FWIW, Microcenter's typical custom is NOT a DAW user.
It's a typical gamer or home user...
I'm in the local Microcenter on a daily basis.  Great guys... but they know nothing about DAWs.

Care to elaborate on your sources? Anything on their 3rd and 4th generation SSDs (Vertex 3 / Vertex 4)?

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. On the other hand the Samsung 830 series consistently gets five eggs .

I have been testing a small Crucial M4 SSD for the past couple of months.  It really helps tremendously with the couple of VSL libraries on it.
