Will Win7 64 be available for purchase with a custom build for the next few months?

Or is it going to disapear quickly as soon as Win8 retail is released?

Thanks.

I just talked to a computer guy and he seem to think that Windows 8 was about Oct. 26th and then I do not know what that computer business will do with the computers they sell.

I think it depends on what computer manufacturers will do while putting an OS on a computer and that depends on if they put on Windows 8 and leave some with Windows 7 yet to sell depending on what computer you buy.

I suspect new "factory" PC's such as Dell, Acer, etc will migrate to Win 8. But custom builders will still offer it. Ultimately it will come down to when Microsoft discontinues selling it.

Thanks.

I've been putting off getting a fresh new system because the old one works well.

Still, I'd like to see what all the extra power does for opening up new modes of work flow.

Every time I think I'll do it I buy another guitar or microphone etc.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't about to *sleep* through the end of a sweet spot for hardware/software being matched well.

At some point I'll just wake up and order one to buy a little more future proofing.

Thanks again.

I've had the beta versions including the "consumer preview" version installed on a PC.  The only thing I can say is "yuck".  I won't be upgrading my production systems to Win 8 for the forseeable future.  I will install it on my "test" system as I do part-time PC support and need it as I know at least one client that is going to upgrade to it.

Microsoft seems to have "off" Operating Systems, one will be good, the next not so good, the next good, etc.  I suspect Win 8 will be one of the "off" operating systems.   I could go back further (my first dealings with Microsoft was DOS 3.0), but Win 98 was not so good, Win 98SE was good, Win ME not so good, Win XP good, Vista not so good, Win 7 good.

I'm kinda ignorant of what's going on with 8, but I do know that I use a super hi resolution wacom tablet to scoot around the screen real fast yet precisely.

The idea that an OS might be optimized for my stubby fingers to use a touch screen seems like it's going to cause all kinds of disappointments.

So, yes... I want to get a Win7 system before it is too late.

Thanks for the insights.

mike
