I'll ask here. I have owned a pair of (passive, non-powred) multimedia speakers, purportedly these ones, for about 13 years:
http://www.amazon.com/Hewlett-Packard-Audio-Speakers-2264098/dp/B0001AOD8O

(Which are the HP Polk Audio 2264098)

Back 13 yrs ago, they gave a reasonable output level on my old-skool HP Pavilion on Line-Out. Now my problem is that the only output that gives a reasonable output level is headphone jack on the front of my PC, and that's pretty inconvenient for the rest of the family.

I just need a pair of speakers that I can have for general multimedia, maybe showing off my latest works. Sadly, these guys are extra weak, and I am hoping someone has a solution.
Thanks!

Not fully seeing the question asked here.

Stab in the dark...you don't want to tie up the phone jack with the speakers, so you can still use cans and avoid midnight chaos from the family, and re-patching is inconvenient...if so, you might come out the line out jack into one of the low end headphone amps, (I have a Samson in one room that gets the job done w/o too much distortion up to about 75% of full throw, set me back $50) and use that to drive your speakers, leaving your phones out for phones.

Matter of fact, this thing has 4 gain controls for 4 different headphone levels, you could drive both the cans and the speakers, (plus two more...somethings), and A/B to your hearts delight. It's called an S-amp.

I'd pedal on down to the neighborhood pawnshop and see what they've got in the way of a low-power amplifier for $20 or so.
