Lynn,

Great song and really like the chord and melody choices.

Vocals could come up a hair.  Distorted organ could come down a hair during the chorus.

Some of the string parts at the end seem a little off starting around 3:38.   Just a timing thing.

Have had a couple listens through after running across this post yesterday.  Really excellent songwriting.

Regards

Nice production. I wish I could get that "wide sound" in my own productions. Drums didn't bother me.

Mark, thank you for your comments.  I will give your ideas a try on my next pass.  As for the timing, the part's actually quantized, but that's where the key change occurs.  I think you're hearing the transition note that leading to the change of scales.  I played around with different notes, but chose that because it's in the scale of both keys.  I wondered about that part.

Mesh, thank you for your time and kind words.

Steen, I appreciate your time and comments.  I just listened to "Scirocco" and I love that song.  You could easily get that wide sound by panning a few elements 75% L and R, which is what I did.  It helps create space and separation.  Put a few things in the 30 to 40 percent range, as well.  Good luck.

Thanks. I actually started doing that on 4 songs I'm currently putting the finish touch on. Still not quite satisfied though.

Hi Lynn

Listened through twice - I really enjoyed this - it has a nice original feel to it. Let's be honest, a few of us round here will have no trouble empathising with the lyrics. Lovely production, lots of space and air. Your voice suits the song perfectly - good job. Had to google ebow - new world for a guitarist eh? Bet you are having a blast!

Cheers, Bill

Steen, you'll get the hang of it after a while.  You already have good material to work with.

Bill, thanks for the kind words.  Yeah, I'm having a blast with the ebow, but I have to be careful not to overdo it ;)

Very nice song, i like the panning of the instruments.
Great vocals, but i would probably raise the volume of them a tiny bit.
Maybe some more compressor on the vocals as well, with a fast attack to make the vocals more IYF.

But its very good as it is right now! :)

John, I appreciate your time and suggestion.  I put up a new mix with the vocal louder and pushed the compressor as you suggested.  I like it.

Link doesnt work but i navigated via your soundclick link.

Great, much better! :)
Now i can feel your vocals much closer and "in my face".
Previous version was a little bit like you where standing in the middle of the room singing.
You could probably go a little bit higher still. But that is all a matter of taste.
Most singers (i know) are a bit uncomfortable with their own vocals and tend to mix them too low.

Great song.
