  • A reworked tune from some little French nuns - ready for mastering, maybe? Thoughts?

Hi guys!

Man, you'd think I was on a roll, or something. (But in all truth, deactivating FB has boosted my productivity 100%!).

Lord Jesus, Of You I Will Sing

Heard this song YEARS ago, and I found it so haunting, I knew one day I'd have to record it. It was originally a French piece written by the Petites Sœurs de Jésus ... a bunch of wee nuns I believe! It was translated into English some years later and I just loved it.

Anyone care to evaluate this song too? Feel free. It's pre-master - no polish yet. Am very proud of the string-arrangement on this and feel it enhances the song. Tossed in a little Parisian cafe accordion here too (Victorini, actually) to give it authenticity. The french words I fly into during the break, I got some very needed help from my Francaphone neighbour back in our old neighbourhood. Hope I did her lessons justice! (French is hard to get your head around, phonetically speaking!)

Thoughts, critiques and feelings about the song are most welcomed.

Take care and looking forward to your evaluations!

Martin

You remind so much of Jon Denver.  :-)

For my taste...
02:16 -02:26  I find that drone irritating.
Is it because the mandolin sound (frequencies) are very similar?
Im trying to listen but my mind gets confused with the info while trying to separate the instruments.

These are the only things I could comment on.. very hard to find fault.

Stings... well done.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I know I sound like J. Denver. A blessing, not a curse! His voice was so rich and developed at the end of his life, thanks to his inspiration and advice from opera star Placido Domingo. (I should really do some tribute videos or something one day! ;-) ).

Anyhow, the 'drone' is the lower register of the accordion and it's not bothering me ... yet. But will think it through for sure.

Much appreciation to all for the comments, compliments and all. :-)

Time for a 6 song EP soon!
Later,

Very nice.

+1 to the comments above.

The nits I heard are more than likely from the speakers I use with this computer.... cheap factory speakers....and not anything in the mix. I will try to get back and listen on a different computer with cans and report back if there's anything to it.

I've never really known what gives with those unmastered nuns. Good luck with them!

It's a great hymn, well done by you! I wonder if the vocal (excellent vocal) is mixed a bit too far out in front of the other instruments? I'd lover it a half a db or maybe give a little bit of that compression back to headroom. It might "sit" a little neater.

Just love the clarity of the mix - extremely well done.
