I've been reading Craig Anderton's articles and reviews since the 80s. I've also found that the best tech support for SONAR comes from other users, friendly folks who have seen the same problems as me, and want to be helpful.

So when Craig began his residence here, it felt to me a little as if a really smart old friend had come to join the conversation, and I looked forward to some good things happening. I wasn't disappointed. Craig's standing in the industry, his personal integrity, his insistence on fact-based discussion and his refusal to pander to malcontents or feed the trolls has raised the level of discourse. The past couple of years the forum has been a great place to hang out, get technical help, hear about new ideas and discover innovative ways of using the software. There are many extraordinary members here, with Craig Anderton perhaps first among equals.

Sadly, we all know the cliches about giant corporations, how out of touch they can be, how much they rely on quarterly financial reports to plan strategy. I mean, seriously, when was the last time you heard a corporate CEO say "Our people are our most valuable asset?" They talked that way for most of the 20th century, but they no longer even pretend to care about employees. Thus it was a shocker to see Mr. Anderton hired to be an "evangelist." It was an optimistic outside-the-box move by Gibson, making his abrupt termination even more depressing: If bringing Craig aboard in that capacity was an unconventional act of faith in the audio and music community, if the work that he did brought us all a little closer to the Gibson/Cakewalk family, then firing him without warning is an unsurprising reminder that corporations are still out of touch, that to them employees remain little more than expenses.

I've gotten a lot of good out of this forum, from Craig, of course, but from many others who jumped in to answer my newbie questions and get me back to making music with SONAR. Thank you Craig, and thank you all. I haven't been much help to anyone in my time here, because I have always felt like a newbie. I still do, but the departure of Mr. Anderton as a full-time bartender here reminds me that the user group is only as good as the users. With Craig's generosity as inspiration, I hope I can be more useful around here.

I met Craig at NAMM. He is/was the same person on this forum as IRL.

Well, what has been changed? Craig is still one of the most prominent gurus in the audio industry. Being no longer anchored to a single corporation he is able to provide his expertise to any company, including Cakewalk. Gibson is still one of the biggest companies in the music world, and Cakewalk is perfectly fine. Certainly, no drama here.

Beautiful post. I would put it in the thread by Graig's  thread. Not now though.

Well, what has been changed?

What has changed is that he is no longer being paid to be here, to post regularly, to create ezine content and plugin chains, that sort of thing, so I expect his valuable participation to decrease considerably.

Speaking of drama, he often used his position of respect to end drama here, when things started to get out of hand.

I agree. To some extent. Craig will still get paid for his valuable participation by other companies. He will still create content and write articles, maybe for some other ezine.
As for drama - just stay away from trolls and forum monkeys and you'll be fine.

With all respect Soundwise, I must disagree. The painful true is Cakewalk tech support doesn't exist. I remember when I started my adventure with Sonar. I tried few times to get help about tech issues and was always ignored. I left Sonar despite of my license for S7 away and used free software. After few years I was intrigued  by X1 with its new design and when I discovered Sonar forum I returned back to enthusiasm and again bought license. Again no support but this time thanks to forum and mainly  to Craig with his passion to teach and help I could survive till now without fear. Thanks to his work, articles and help I was discovering different secrets of this DAW.
Of course, I appreciate also other very helpful person but Craig was as active as it was his 'work' to help people.

My point is if Gibson fired such valuable person as Craig who taught about in fact their product and played role of support many times it means they care about support even less than before...

It is really big disappointment for me as I respected brand Gibson not only because of great guitars but because of respect to their customers. I remember when my coll years ago send them back broken string he got in return new pack plus t-shirt. Now in contrast such person as Craig is not appreciated by them... Of course I am not worrying about Craig, he will be fine and many competitors are now happy he is available again but I am really afraid about Sonar future... They can abandon it at any moment... History showed not such surprises. Sonar is one of the very first DAW and has potential to be in top 3 but can you remember IBM PC ? IBM invented great device and totally screw it up... Nomen omen the same story about OS/2. Operating system which was ways better than windows...
Anybody remembers it now? :)

Unfortunately good product doesn't grant anything if not supported properly...

I hope my fears will not materialize... I really like Sonar and wait every month for new improvements and fixes of countless bugs.

Anyway, I wish Craig all the best with his career and I am convenient he will get many new interesting opportunities.

Seth Kellogg [Cakewalk]
Hey everyone,

We're releasing 10.2017 Early Access (check Command Center?) and the latest SONAR Home Studio release just went out today. We want the SONAR forum focused on SONAR to adequately gauge feedback.

Bapu called it. I'm going to move the thread to the coffee house, where you all can continue the conversation if you wish.
