..ex-Hurricane Ophelia that is. +100MPH winds recorded in Southern Ireland already, it should hit us in Scotland just after dark  Really weird light this morning, almost twilight. Quite eerie. Wind's just starting to pick up now.

Yeah, even here in Warrington the sky had a kind of dark pinkish tinge to it... Just largely overcast now with the odd bit of sunshine poking through every now and then.

Hope all goes okay "up there" James

Do hurricanes regularly hit Scotland/Ireland?

Definitely the calm before the storm is quite eerie indeed......the power going out was one of our biggest issues during Irma and not a whole lot you can do. Stay safe James and board up the windows/hunker down if needed.

No, it's very unusual. It's *just* a storm now, not a hurricane. Heard of one fatality in Ireland so far, young woman killed in her car by a falling tree. Wind's really whipping up here now, I expect we'll lose power when it gets to it's strongest, the ancient overhead power lines around here can't cope with it.

Got the torches, phones and radio charged up, just going out now to put away anything that can blow around. Like, the goats....

Good to hear from you......(lol on the goats)....
If it's not too late, stock up on water and canned or dry foods (just in case the power goes out).

Thanks Mesh. Water supply isn't affected by power outtages, and it's ridiculously warm for the middle of October so it doesn't matter if the heating ain't working. Luckily we have a calor gas hob so we can still cook and boil water if need be.

Should all be gone over to the east by 5am tomorrow, so we're hunkering down.

Hurricanes are old hat in these parts. That doesn't mean I like them but I've just been in so many. Binge TV helps if you can't get out. I have netflix so it comes in handy till the power goes out. Just another stormy day so put on some stew and brew! make the most of it!!
