...get a 'bounced down' side-chained effect?
So say my kick drum makes a pad track duck - is it possible to bounce the now ducking synth down to a new track with the ducking effect on it? I tried it thinking it would work but it doesn't. The track always needs the kick drum. But surely there's a way?

Have you tried exporting the track (in the file menu) to a wave, instead of bouncing it? The options in the export dialog are fairly self explanatory.

Hey Sharke - I just tried that now - alas, it didn't work.
Any other suggestions?

p.s - I see you use Sonar X2 Producer - I am waiting on mine to arrive soon. I can't wait to get my hands on that pro channel.

Hmm...well this is a limitation of Sonar I think....it's routing options aren't the best. You should, by rights, be able to just divert the output of your pad track to another track and hit record. You can do this in Pro Tools but Sonar is a bit limited where this is concerned. At this point the only thing I can think of is if you used ReWire to route the audio from Sonar into another DAW. Maybe try ReWire'ing Sonar into Reaper?

Looking in the Sonar help files, there is a reference to bouncing tracks with sidechain input. It says:

"In order to render a sidechain input as part of a mix when bouncing audio, you must select all tracks that contribute to the sidechain input."

http://www.cakewalk.com/D...Mixing.30.html#1424233

However, I'm not sure how that works. Surely the sidechain input track will be printed with the bounce? Maybe if you select it, but mute it, it still works?

Also, you might look into the "live input" option in the Bounce To Track dialog in the Tracks menu. That also might enable you to do it, although when I look at that menu it's grayed out. You'll probably have to consult the manual.

The sidechain key track can be selected along with the required target track which can be soloed. As long as the keying send is "Post" the sidechain signal will still be present to affect the bounced track.

The sidechain signal goes nowhere so won't be included as part of that track.

Even without the solo as long as "tracks" is selected for the source category it would still work but you'd just end up with an extra track (the keying track) to delete.

Hey guys thanks so much for taking the time to look into this. I currently use Sonar Home Studio 7xl and that has nothing sidechainable in it (as far as i know). So I have to use a plug in Sidechain compressor from 'db Audioware'.

When it comes to bouncing down tracks, I always lose the sidechain effects and have to re-apply them which is very frustrating. With the genre of music I produce, I mix as i go, meaning this really messes with my workflow.

I will definitely try your suggestions tomorrow and let you know if I have any luck.

So are you saying, for example, with a kick track making a synth track duck...highlight BOTH tracks, solo the synth, bounce them both down?

It worked!
I highlighted both MIDI tracks, soloed the synth track and bounced down with 'tracks' selected in the bounce options.

I also had to un-check 'bypass all' in the effects bin on both tracks before bouncing them down as this had automatically turned on when I had to freeze the tracks to convert them to audio.

Thanks for your help Sharke and Karl!
Now I can create sidechained tracks without having to keep the routing.

Glad you are sorted, where there's a will there's a way.
