Has anyone used P5 with Windows 8 and found success? I just ordered a new tower and it comes pre installed with Windows 8 64 bit. I would hate to lose my ability to continue using P5. I may have to go shopping for an old XP machine.

I can guarantee that Project 5 works in Windows 7 64, but I'm not sure about 8. I know that doesn't answer your question. I have a hunch it will work for you, though. If no one else responds, give it a try and let us know how it works out.

When I installed it in Windows 7, I installed version 2 from the CD, making sure to include all of the options. I then installed the 2.5 update, and the update to that (2.5.1 or something like that).  Works great, and I still use it a lot.

Finally, even Kinetic 2 works for me in Windows 7 64. But, it did not work until I did a clean reinstall of Windows 7 64 a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I did after getting win7 up and running was to install both P5 and Kinetic, and they both worked right off the bat. I did not get the "Directx 9.0 not present" error when trying to install P5, like I did when I tried installing it after I'd had Win7 running on the machine for a year.

The only thing that refuses to work is the old version of Pyro (the version that came out over ten years ago).

I can confirm that Project 5.2.1 works fully and properly in Windows 8 (x64).  I'm happy about that; just wish the all (P5) DXi's worked in a x64 Host (SONAR X2) (they do work in SONAR x86).  Well, at least I can still get them in P5, but just can't rewire P5 into SONAR.  Ugh!

I forgot to mention, P5 must be installed and run under administrator privileges (or "as administrator") and, most importantly, in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3.

Kind regards,

it blows my mind that 6 years after p5 was last updated, that folks are still installing it under new OSs.  It shouldn't because I installed it under Win 7 64. :-)  Works like a charm.

Update:  I have been using P5 in Win 8 and it works fine. I have a few less synths to pick from, but no problems so far.

I can't believe it has taken me almost ten tears to get to a bronze member. And P5 five has been dead for nearly half of that.

Congratulations, Chris!

You would not believe this, but I just found P5 still available on MF's website:

Why would a discontinued product still be for sale?
