Hey James, How are you, buddy?  Hope you're having a great week in beautiful Scotland!

Big thanks for checking this quickie out for me, and for your good ears, input and suggestion!

Yes, Sir, everybody's absolutely right about the sub par drums on this one!  I'm still fighting to try to get my "Studio Ears" back after a year and a half off.  I've been getting in a couple hours a week, usually between 3:00 and 5:00AM, and then can't get back into the studio for a week or two, rinse and repeat.  I'm hoping to be able to free up some more time for music as soon as the holidays are over, and be able to re-train my ears a bit and get some of the rust off my playing and singing!

I just uploaded Mix #2 for this one at the same link.  I touched up the EQ on the drums and bass, and pushed up the drum bus volume a bit to add a little more punch, although I'm still not quite sure about the volume levels of the drums, instruments and vocals overall.

If you happen to see this, please let me know if I'm headed in the right direction, or if you have any other ideas or suggestions!

Thanks again, James, you've always been a great help here on the forum, and I truly appreciate your input and friendship!

Have a great day!
Bob

What's not to like Bob?

Great riff, solid guitar tones, pounding bass/drums and a stand out vocal.
I really like how the vocals cut through everything.
If this is a test mix I can't wait to hear the final one.

Yes, Sir, for this second mix, as per your, James and Bill's suggestion I bumped up the drums with some volume and EQ adjustments, and also tried to balance the bass EQ a bit.  I'm hoping I'm headed in the right direction!

Thanks again for giving this a listen and commenting, and have a good one!

Hey, Paul,

Thanks very much for taking time to check this out for me and for your input and encouraging words!

Greatly appreciated, my friend, I hope your neighbors didn't mind too much!  LOL, although I'm sure many of the good people of Birmingham have been woken up by Black Sabbath a few times back in the day!

Thanks again, Paul and have a great weekend!

Hi,

Thank you so much for giving this a listen for me, and for your good input and encouraging comments!

Yes, Sir, I may have to revisit the drums again on this one to try to add a bit more metal punch, as you mentioned.  As I mentioned in my reply to Wayfarer above, I usually end up over complicating my drum parts and the guys here on the forum help me simplify them and reign them in.  I guess this time I went too far in the opposite direction and kept things too simple!  Believe it or not, for how simple the main guitar riff is, it was a bit difficult trying to come up with a drum groove that didn't end up countering it and taking away from the main groove, so I really tried to keep the drums very simple and as close to what I was hearing in my head. Hopefully, I'll be able to add a little more finesse to the drums after the holidays when some time frees up.

Thanks again for taking time to check this out and comment, I truly appreciate your input and observations!

Have a Rockin' weekend!
