I think that it would be important to have a intelligent automatic backup system that would be able to get all the important files on the most critical moments just so you are assured that you save whatever is important just before things go a little out of hand. Though with the current implementation of fail safes, it is something that is not ready to be implemented just yet. Or at least with consideration to what is being done in the market.

Anything running in the background (that's not absolutely necessary) is diminishing performance.
