  • Lemme rephrase this... will this have any effect on DAW users?

as long as we are not planning on windows having GM files. As long as we are using an interface, a DAW, and softsynths or hw synths running through a USB interface? I am really unsure what is coming or not coming with Windows 8. I don't know but I don't think I will have any use for Metro but I will give it a fair chance. I am concerned about what I hear about W8 not using ASIO drivers, i am pretty sure that this midi issue will mean nothing... but I am not sure. I get the feeling that MS is throwing music and video producers under the bus,  fluffing their feathers and strutting for young people who just want to listen, watch, stream, etc.
I don't want to be left out in the cold and wonder if I should buy go ahead and buy an extra copy of W7.... but I don't know... maybe it is not going to be an issue. I wish someone would chime in. I would download and try the beta but I am afraid I would mess things up... I need to bite the bullet and get another box dedicated to just my DAW. I guess that is the bottom line, should I be sure and buy another computer before the W8 rollout becomes official and maybe W7 wont be an option.
Do you know? should I be concerned or just 9am I worrying over nothing?) go with the flow... anyone who knows can answer. I just mentioned Jim because I will most likely buy a Studiocat, they seem to have the best bang for buck. Frankly Steve Ballmer scares me... have you seen the videos on YT of him? sheesh....

http://social.msdn.micros...31c89765?prof=required (this is a little bit over my head, I need the "for dummies version").

Also I have read that W8 will not support ASIO drivers but have yet to verify it, I just read it in a comment on W8.

I am hoping it is the usual confusion that precedes any change but I hope MS is not ditching to producer in the chase for the listener/viewer.

Thanks...

Also (from the Presonus forum)

Where Windows 8 is concerned, they are changing some low level API's where audio is concerned.

It's supposedly going back to the XP style of how audio is handled.

White paper here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/br259116

Since this is driver level, not app level, all eyes will be on the device makers for new drivers. Fun!
