Hi,

anyone using a USB3 drive to record to?
I just got a new laptop (Dell XPS15)  and it just had got one drive. USB3 supposedly is a lot faster then USB2.
So do you reckon it is fast enough to record 8 tracks 24bit 48kHz simultaneously?

Hi there ,

I just purchased a Hitachi HITMP750B 750GB Touro Mobile Pro USB 3.0 Hard Disk Drive from BH Photo for $99 delivered. I am using it with a laptop as the audio drive and it seems to be working fine.

It is a very small external 7200 rpm drive and is powered from the USB 3.0 port so no wallwart is needed.

I have not tried to record 8 simultaneous tracks but I do run multiple 24bit 48kHz soft synth and audio tracks with it.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Kind regards,
Rick

A fast USB-3 HD will sustain over 100MB/Sec.
That's plenty fast to record eight simultaneous 24Bit/48k audio tracks.
