  • Are Green drives suitable as OS and program drives?

I'm looking for a HD for my OS and programs that's quiet but at the same time fast. Is a Green drive meant for a backup drive or are they also made to house an OS and programs?

+1 that's the only thing I'll use them for.

From everything I've ever heard about green drives....NO, not good enough.

If I'm using enough memory that doesn't require a program like Sonar to use the hd's temporary cache as memory, won't I be fine? So... if the hd goes to sleep, Sonar will still function normally off of the memory - is that correct or will I be taking a chance?

Don't do it!

As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't use green drives as backup drives either.
Tried it and backup takes longer than it should.

I've read specs that they spin up to 7200rpm but I really don't believe it!

No, you're fooling yourself if you think you can manage with one of these things.

Don't bother. What's the point in trying to save a very small amount of money?

I'm with Gustabo, I wouldn't even use one of these things for backup purposes

I've got a 2TB WD green that I use as a beer coaster in my studio.
Interesting conversation piece!

I love the green drives for backups. I wouldn't use one for regular duty as an OS drive, but for backups they're great.

Would any of you put your samples into a Green drive?
